The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

I returned a pair of HE560 that got processed by Amazon about 3 days ago, so if it's the pair I had expect a unit that sat on a headphone stand for about 12 hours and then briefly listened to and put back in the box. Shouldn't be any damage to it unless it got some in the return shipment.

Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with the HE560 especially compared to a slightly modded HE500. But I did like the pads a lot.

Also, since people make an off topic post and then post a link to a product and call it a "deal" so they feel they're staying on topic.....
Coconut audio is back! I know it's an auction, but if you can get this cable near this price, WOW what a deal

(This is a joke, please don't actually bid on this cable.)

Rumor is it should be used with Darker signature cans.

Also, it imparts a Sssslightly Ssssibilant Ssssound

Can you give a little impression as to why you found HE-560 inferior to your HE-500s?
What were you using them with?

Here's probably why:

There's your problem, I don't see how people can give a headphone a brief listen then just return it. But then again you already have the HE500, which to me is colored which then leads me to believe that you are not a neutral phone kind of guy. Some people want the WOW out of the gates, I for one have found that headphones that usually WOW on first listen gets tiresome in the long run and onto the classifieds it goes. The ones that have something magical to it on initial impression but can't quite put a finger on, those are the phones that usually keep my attention longer. Of course YMMV and IMO.

+1.  At the fall Nashville meet I compared a well used stock HE500 to a brand new HE560.  The HE500 was very musical.  The HE560 was 3 hours old and quite possibly the worst sounding headphone of the dozen or so I listened to that day.  I do believe in burn-in!

This is why it's best to stick to the headphone you really like, opinion varies too much with headphones.

Utter tosh. I have both, given lots of listening time to both, with modest as well as high-end gear, and the 560s objectively dominate the 500s. Anyway, buy them while they're <$700, it's a great deal for great reference cans.

He's entitled to his own opinion as you are to yours.
Also, "dominate" is a a bit of a strong word, isn't it?

Get a certified electrician in your house ..

Ditto on home wiring. I had a high power amp that refused to get out of startup mode on certain plugs in the house, but worked fine on others. I returned the amp under warranty for a new one, which worked fine everywhere.

BTW, thanks. We're looking into it.

I'm actually a big fan of more neutral signatures, and am usually more impressed with a neutral sound. I rarely am impressed or surprised with any headphone or earphone after 10 years in the headphone hobby. In the last 3 years the only purchase I've had that really impressed me was the UERM. I think the HE500 and HE560 sit on different sides of neutral.

Just stating the fact that people who try headphones for an incredibly limited time and come to a conclusion so quickly are usually rookies. That's all.

"Objectively dominate"? A bit overly dramatic, I think. There are very few headphones that can be "objectively dominate"d, most of which lie in the Bose realm.   Anything to "objectively" back up this claim?

Better square wave response, deeper bass extension, more balanced treble, and most importantly, substantially lower THD across the audio spectrum (which with better sources and amps is quite noticeable). I can't see anywhere, in objective tests, where the 500s are better.

Objective measurements back me up, but anyone can like whatever they want.

So what you're saying here is that the HE-400i is pretty much just as good as the HE-560.

Which was mentioned in the video.
