The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

Considering that when the HD 600 and HD 650 were on sale, there was around a $50 price difference between the two, and also assuming that the HD 650 + Groove deal is worthwhile (I know nothing about the Apogee Groove), then the HD 600 + Groove for $400 should be a pretty great deal for those looking for a HD600 + portable AMP/DAC combo.  Going off of the prices from when I bought my Sennheisers:

$500 Bundle price - HD 650 for $290 = Apogee Groove for $210
$400 Bundle price - HD 600 for $240 = Apogee Groove for $160

I've listened to them more in the last 3 days than I have over the last 6 months.  Ironic that I couldn't sell them when I wanted to and now that I can, I'm not sure if I want to anymore.

Interesting that you feel the cable made that much difference, is the rest of your gear otherwise identical? Anyway if you do decide to keep them you might want to look into Purrin's mod and see if it's something that would address any shortcomings you feel they have.

Has anyone seen a current deal on the HD-650? Seems all prices have gone back up to $499. Pretty sure it's a conspiracy against me.

I've been searching every.single.day since I posted a few pages back lol I'm starting to thing it's the conspiracy thing too

I've even called around and the most anyone will give me is about $30 off full price.

Best I was able to find so far was $330 shipped. I didn't pull the trigger because they dipped to $270 earlier this year.

May want to try emailing sonicelectronix? I know they were doing their best to accommodate lowest available prices with a 'name your own price' promo a shirt while back. Worth a shot.

Guys this has gotta be a great deal, esp for the 600's, with the Groove going for $295 on Amazon right now. Please post any experience with the little Groove - or PM me if u feel it will clutter the thread even tho it is definitely deal-related

.

I am also interested to know if the 600 can be equalized to match the bass of the 650. I really don't like to use equalizing but I have always heard that is the main difference between the 2.

From the reviews I've read, people seem to like it...including those who previously owned the AQ Dragonfly 1.2 and some other competitive products.

I'm sad I missed the deal on the Pandora Hope VI on Massdrop. Guess I have to figure out whether I want the ZMF Blackwood or Pandora Hope VI before they drop again. Its a shame I can't really listen to either without buying them.

Exactly, and that makes it difficult for someone who really feels he needs to get something better . However, I have confidence that the Sonorous VI (not pandora hope anymore) could be resold around the same price, since it was $200 off and came with the extra set of alternate pads. It is lower risk in that way.

Back on Massdrop again!!! I caved this time. Never bought a pair in that price range. Oh a slippery slope I've begun down...

I got $30 in credit there. Thats tempting. Wish i knew how they compared to the RS1. So few comparisons...

I have the RS1 (with buttons), the RS1i (more recent, without buttons), the RS2i, and the RS2e (and 16 other Grado products, but we don't need to get into that.

In a comparison of 13 Grado headphones (link in my signature), the RS2i came out on top (yep, even ahead of the fabulous PS1000 and the wonderful RS1, which was second of the 13).  I then compared my RS2i with an RS2e at my Grado dealer, and the RS2e was even better.

So to my ears at least, the RS2e is The Best!

Again, take a look at the link in my signature ("Graphic compare of 13 Grados"), where I describe the 10 acoustic features I used, the 4 main types of features I collapse them down to, and my test songs and methods.  Also a neat 4D plot of where the 13 headphones sit in the four-space of (transparency | bass impact | treble detail | sound stage).

The RS-2e is an excellent can.  If the 1e is any better, it's not by much.  I would put the GH-1 (which is a sibling of the 2e) above the 1e.

BTW that's a change from the "i" versions, where the 1i was clearly the superior can--and in my opinion still better than the 1e.

The RS1e is the ONLY -e - series of Grado thought by many to be actually POORER than its ancestor, the RS1i.  So if your choice is between any RS2 (i, or e) or the RS1e, by all means go for the RS2e.  I was answering for the RS1, which preceded the RS1i (and at least in my tests is a bit better than the RS1i).
