Only the play/pause button works on my Note 3. Volumes don't work. I hear there are apps to make it work, but I don't use it directly with phone too often. Usually used with an external dac with my phone.

I ask because for the ue4000, it said that its compatible with iphones and that other smartphones may or may not work.
