Sennheiser HD650s were $185, Fiio had a flash sale of $225 for the X5 to reduce stock, and Oppo BDP-105s were $300 on closeout.

Just kidding :D

More K7XX are available on Massdrop: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-k7xx-massdrop-first-edition-headphones

How can they say MSRP 649.99 when the only place that sells them is MassDrop. Ain't there a law against that?

Plus these are showing up on the used forum for $175ish.

From Bottlehead:
In consideration of the Mainline being shown off this weekend we have decided to run a special during T.H.E. show. Mainline is regularly $1199, but during T.H.E. show we will be rolling the price in our online store back to $999, a $200 savings. We gotta get home and get ready to catch a plane tomorrow, so we decided to go ahead and launch the special at our beginning of the show, tonight. The sale will end when the show ends on Sunday afternoon. As usual delivery is subject to getting the parts inventory in, and orders are shipped in the order they are received. So the sooner you order the higher up you will be in the shipping queue.

Msrp is dictated by who ever nominated the drop and not by massdrop themselves. The question is do they need to correct what the person who nominated the product wrote or just go with it?

So let's say I nominate the he1000, early speculation was $10,000 (let's say) and that's all I know. So I say let's do an he1k drop, Msrp $10k. If it gets enough votes and the manufacturer agrees, it becomes a drop with a $10k Msrp.

Yes, but, at least for the first 7xxx drop, the model didn't exist, it was an offer made by Massdrop and the manufacturer, there couldn't be a nomination...

The Manufacturer can suggest a recommended retail price even if he only supplies one retailer, no?

Cheers,

the msrp of the k7xx is based on the original msrp of the k702 65th anniversaries as the k7xx are based on that model. now the current selling price of the k702 65th annies are lower than its msrp, but I don't personally have an issue with the approach that massdrop has taken with this. either way, the k7xx punches much higher than its price point.

old msrps aren't really that important in deciding whether a pair of headphones fit your sonic preferences and have good sound quality. i've found that price points don't always correlate will with sound quality, so I personally disregard all manufacturer msrp numbers and assign my own number based on my assessment of the competing alternatives on the market & how well the headphones fit my tastes. hahah =P
