The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

Still, it is way overpriced for a product that old.

This argument is completely wrong. Based on your argument, every new headphone should be better than older model but in this hobby/industry, engineering doesn't progress revolutionary.

There's so many headphones that can prove this. For example Ety ER-4, the first thing coming to my mind.

Anyway, HD800 is still way better than so many other TOTL headphones, so in this case I see no wrong with it's price.

That's the current serial, then? I don't follow the HD800 thread too much and I was making a shot in the dark based on a distant memory. Still, it is way overpriced for a product that old. If it is still expensive for them to make, they need their engineering team to seriously rethink the fundamentals.

I have bought one from buysonic back in november and the serial is 327XX.

But unlike HD600/HD650 consistent price reduction, HD800 deals shows up not so often… And then? I really don't know!

Boy, I remember, not that long ago, $350 for a 650 felt like a steal! That's what I paid 2 Black Fridays ago.

All I know is the HD600 is $239.00 right now and I'm in so much trouble when girlfriend finds out I jumped all over the deal.

Guys, I agree that there is something going on with Sennheiser, hopefully new improved models. I will still be happy with my just a week old HD650 that I bought for $290 from Amazon. Love this can - and wanted it for quite some time.

Anyhow, the one thing that I don't believe is that top of the line headphone, the flagships, will drop in price. I think we can see the opposite. Hifimans HE-1000 will be 2,999 USD

But what else is happening is that there will be better mid-fi offerings that rival old summit-fi headphones. And that is a good thing.

I was in the market for a HD700 but now that the PM-3 is only $399, I am not so sure anymore. I do know they are very different sound signatures but I can only spend so much on headphones, have an expensive car hobby too :D so need to practice some self discipline.

Cheers,
K

There Is no chance HD800 will cost less.
1. It is made by hand, it costs a lot to make.
2. They will be screwing all of their customers who paid a full price.

#2: Most businesses drop the price when the product doesn't move as quickly as they'd like. Almost all businesses do this. If they're happy with the volume the price stays. Sennheiser aren't dropping the price yet because they know they can make money, not because they're making sure their customers don't pay less than someone who purchased an 800 previously.

Agreed. The HD800 fills a performance and price niche for Senn.  Take Apple's Macbook Pro. They may improve each iteration of the MBP by increasing performance and installing more capabilities but they will never lower it out of its price point of $1,200-$2,000. Likely, when Sennheiser decides to replace the HD800 they will likely place a new product right into the same price point. Also, if they were to heavily discount any product they would only foster bottom feeding clientele.  To Perljam50000's point, Sennheiser doesn't want to do anything to disrupt their higher-end clientele. That is why you typically see heaving discounting on price points under $300.  The clientele at this price point are more fickle and likely to jump to the latest fashionable product i.e. Momentums for Urbanites.

I should clarify that I am ok with a used pair. In other news. Friendly reminder that these are still just $40 with the AU50 coupon code. Really nice IEMs. Great value. My favorite for the price http://www.earphonesolutions.com/audeo-perfect-bass-microphone.html

At $500, you might have to settle for:
Used -Acceptable
"Headphone includes right ear cup only"
:)

If you like what you've heard with my PM-2, you will like PM-3 as well IMO... Perhaps moreso.
