The Deals DISCUSSION Thread (READ THE FIRST POST!!!)

Thanks for the info.  I went ahead and did it.  $819 is such a good deal for those, and no tax or shipping.  If I don't end up liking them (which is a slim chance), I can sell them for probably more than that.

I think you can get them for cheaper.  I haven't looked around but if you go back a page or 2 on the Massdrop discussion page, you'll see links for a cheaper vendor(s).

I just looked and dunno what you're talking about.  Everyone is actually saying that you can't beat the price.  And I've looked around for a while now on the SE846.  Have not seen anything that comes close to $819 flat out.

I checked those out - one requires a New Year's coupon code that is not showing any longer:
http://www.headphone.com/products/shure-se846

The other seems to be back to normal pricing AND is at the moment sold out even at that price:
http://www.agiprodj.com/shure-se846-cl-sound-isolating-quad-driver-earphone-w-detachable.html

I agree with you, I appreciate a good deal but the "we can get it for cheaper" comments in the Massdrop conversation amount to ~$20 savings for potentially more effort and wait time. In one case, the poster had a special "hush hush" deal from the seller (Sweetwater). Their price doesn't show this "special friend price" that was claimed: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SE846

These Shures have been on my to-do list for a while, mainly because I can't sit at my browser all day looking for the absolute lowest deal, but just a great offer that I think is worth the amount of time I've spent to find it.

+1

What MD offers is a fine price.  Everywhere you look right now, it's $999

Slightly off-topic but why buy a $900 universal when you can get a custom for that price?

+1. I don't really see $800 for universals as a good deal when you can get CIEMs at that kinda price nowadays.

Some prefer the form factor of universals. No hassle getting impressions. No possibility of needing refit. The specific universal in question may fit one's sound preferences better. Easier resale. With the shure se846, throw in another 150 and you can even get silicon sleeves for it to basically be a silicon CIEM (see my signature). Best of both worlds.

I will second the refit part.  I briefly looked into custom IEM, but decided against them when an audiologist told me human ear canal doesn't stay static...it changes with age just like the rest of the human body and sometimes he had to redo impressions every 1-2 years for people.  Eff that...

Seems like everyone interested in the SE846 missed the HeadRoom deal for $799.99 few days ago.

Not sure if it's a good deal, but this is the lowest I've seen for these.
NeweggFlash (sold by WORLD WIDE STEREO) has a Sennheiser HD7 for $199.99.

Having done the impression/ciem bit, I can say it is bit of a pain. I got a set about a month ago, and think I'll need to send them back for some adjusting, left ear not quite perfect. And, if you don't like deep insert headphones (think Etymotic, many can't stand how they feel, though I like them), then figure, these will go in MUCH further! Takes some getting used to, just starting to get there. But, the way the sound envelopes you is the pay off, closest you'll get to full size cans inside your canals.

Having said that, the Shures sure are tempting :D
