How would you compare the848 and the Heir 8.0? (and does anyone like the Senn ie800?)

I have to admit, I'm kinda bummed I missed the HD598 for $100 this morning.  I'd have liked to have heard them and, for that price, I could probably just have gifted them after.

If it goes down to sub-100 again, I will bite.

I'm not even familiar with the Sensonics, though I have read about the custom sleeves somewhere. Not inexpensive (though none of the ones we're throwing about are). What are they like? Why these rather than Heir or 1964ears?

As far as the Hifimam HE-400, isn't it supposed to be bettered by the 400i? At least that's what every review I've read says. There is a significant price difference at the Moon Audio price, though, but, for me, I'll probably just feel like I got the lesser model and feel like I need to upgrade.

Maybe so but keep in mind the 400 is far from TOTL these days so you ARE buying a lesser model.  That said, I love my HE-400s and believe they beat the top 3 phones of about 5 years ago (HD650,DT990,K701) and yes I've had them all.

really like the sound of these, fit if iffy, but I did manage with Ultimate Ears tips.

Hasn't been mentioned much, but I always liked my 132's, and these have been on the radar as well. But hey, can I buy the X1, Momentum, IE800, expensive vacuum tubes, Momentum over ears, UERM's, and who knows what else and live (literally and financially) to tell the tale? Not to mention the $1000 HD800, and whatever price the Audeze LCD-2 wind up selling for (as it is posted west coast time, likely be offered after I'm asleep and sold out before I wake, so maybe I'm off the hook on this one...)
WOW!!!!!!!!

400i probably is "better" in some ways. But the 400 Will let you dip your feet into planar for dirt cheap. Only other way would be a modded t50 at that price point. But any modded t50 sounds MUCH different than the 400. I honestly loved mine but couldn't get over the upper mids for metal and rock. I ended up with an he4 which is an absolute steal, but it lead me down a further path of amp/dac upgrades to show it's full potential. If I was you I'd grab that 400, if Ya don't like it at least you'll hear that magic planar bass. Then you can sell it.

I bought the HD650s last week, yet still almost pulled the trigger on the HD598. lol

Don't do it!

If you already have the 650s and plan to use both these open cans at home, I guarantee you the 598s will see no play time. The 650s are so much better, you'll find the 598s disappointing in comparison.

It happened to me.

If you plan on using the 598s at another site, like at work for example, then it's a good buy.

Yeah, but I recently got the HE-560, so I really don't need to dip my feet in. Drbluenewmexico , who posts a bunch, likes the400i, better than the560, which started me off on this tangent. Keeping me occupied, that's for sure! And maybe keeping busy will keep me from bbuying10 TOTL headphones!

Any shure 846 owners on the thread? I'm beginning to wonder if the massdrop sale may be worth it. I've owned some of their bottom tier IEMs and was never really impressed so I'm a little hesitent with their flagship.

It's a great deal on the HE-400!

Just keep in mind these have a really hot treble. Some folks won't mind, but if you are sensitive to treble, these may not be your cup of tea.

Fantastic on all other fronts soundwise, however.

Well worth it if you are OK with the tipped-up treble.

My favourite IEM to date. Great quality mass and beautiful mids. Bests my JH13 and UM3X for sure.

I own the 846 and they are amazing. For $820, you can't go wrong. I usually listen to music while working but they sound so good that I get distracted by their sound quality haha.
