The LCD-X is super tempting...
The LCD-X is super tempting...
Odd, because I can somehow easily resist the desire to drop $1,350 on headphones.
The LCD-X is super tempting...
Do it... I bought mine from Brian a few months ago and I love them. You won't regret it
I just picked up a Q701 and been listening for the past 2 days. Quick comparison :
Q701 has warmer/more forward mids.
Larger soundstage, more accurate imaging.
Bass impact is slightly less, 880s feels more visceral, kicks more.
[snip]
... but him and Tim are somehow playing guitar directly in my face to my left and right. Made for a very weird listening experience.
No, the Q701 gave me the weird listening experience. I love the presentation of the dt880s. They're not v shaped by any means. I feel that they're balanced/neutral with a bright tilt.So wait, the DT's caused the weird listening experience? I'm mostly considering the DT880 because of their fabled "transparency" and wearing comfort. Before I had the Q701 I had the AD700 for 3 years, so I'm kinda trained by the AT & AKG bent to sounds, prefer balance/neutrality and tight bass over a V-shape.

The Q701 acts funny in imaging with some rigs and more so because of amps. For example, they were perfect with the Vali and Yulong D100 pairing since the Vali were a little challenged in the soundstage dept, which the Q701 seem to match well with. Now the same DAC but with the Tubemagic A1 amp and just like you describe, it sounded separated from right and left which makes it weird when sound is suppose to be front and center.
