I bought one of the older models as a gift for someone who hasn't been spoiled by high end cans, he said they were very nice headphones. I would presume the sound to be a cleaner Beats-inspired frequency response.

I can agree with that. Been a customer since 2006, maybe thats why I got a good price for the X2?

Hmm I remember I paid 80 bucks for my pair of SHP9500 and I rarely used them lol. Need to buy a second pair to mod them since they are kind of bright out of the box. Not a bad thing but for long listening periods, the highs get me fatigued and wont stand more than 1 hour listening to them. I use to use them for competitive gaming, especially when I squad up with friends. But ever since I got the K7XX and the X2.....I seem to have not gone back to them.

I would still hghly recommend them to anyone, even to those that have more expensive headphones. You can think of them as your spare headphone, just like i have the koss ksc75 lol....they are still dangling on my wall.

They need something like 150-200hrs those SHP9500 to really shine. First 50 hours were hell specially with the DX100 Sabre DAP, talk about BRIGHT.

For any that doesn't believe break-in, please buy these headphones. They're cheap, sound great (after 100-150hrs), and they're comfy. Not for small heads though, it was still relatively loose on my 7.5" head.

Sennheiser HD700 $499 (ends 6/28)

Great price on the HD700s, especially since these are new units. I for one think they get a lot of undeserved flack. It ain't no flagship, but offers a lot more value than people give them credit for.

^ +1 -I think at <$500 they are great value for $$. (Given a good source+amp of course).
I love them out of my Burson 160D-Soloist combo.

$459 delivered from Sennheiser direct and with a $25 HDTracks voucher was the best I saw, and these were new.  That was mid November.

I sold mine, but they are very well made, extremely comfortable and I didn't find the sound signature nearly as divisive as some.  They just didn't wow me, but for $459 I think they're a solid value.  I think the biggest challenge may be that they sit between the 600/650 and the 800 so each of those groups is trying to compare them relativley speaking.
