They only sell to businesses not to private people.

I know Nayparm buys his batteries in China and that it is a nightmare as more often than not what gets delivered does not meet the promissed specs.
Got to know & how to play the game. Although from the UK I've spent close to two decades in P. R. China and it's very different to what it's portrayed to be. Here you get what you pay for A to Z...

With time hopefully they will keep making a good reliable third party battery for the Mk1

Any compatible battery will work, just need to transplant the controller. Any smartphone repair shop can do with instruction. WM1A/Z isn't going anywhere soon. Second gen will be DOA soon as it's OS is obsolete. If Sony was genuine it would have developed it's own Walkman OS not sold out to Google's $$$$...

They went for Android because the customers wanted to use Android Apps^^

But Sony can also just upgrade the Android. The SoC they usesupports almost all Android versions and will most likely support the next few versions.

Maybe, but they haven't upgraded the ZX500 or A105 yet, even with Android 11 on the same SOC (NW-WM1ZM2, NW-WM1AM2)...

Interesting to see the output power spec on a Sony EU (Denmark) and Sony Asia site to see the effect of the EU power cap. This is for the ZX300 but I would assume the same goes for all the other Sony dap's.

The German homepage lists the uncapped numbers but also 4.2mW is like nothing, that can't be true

Best review to review source of your music or hearing, bearing in mind your comparing a $1.2K DAP to an $8+ desktop player with vastly differing tuning. My WM1A has never sounded distant or hollow. It's slightly coloured as per Sony's intention, being their take on reference...

My two Gen 1 Sonys and my Lotoo Paw Gold Touch are enough for me.

Bottom line is the DMP-Z1 is not realistically a portable player. The WM1A/Z is pushing it, WM2 passing the boundary of portability for some. Have no idea why the DMP-Z1 is in the conversation other than bragging rights. DMP-Z1 is a spectacular DAP, equally for those on the go a highly impractical device. Again thx to @MrWalkman for demystifying much of Sony's sound. It's mostly software based and tuned specifically to be so...

I ran DMP FW on my WM1A for a good while, nor was it poles apart, quite the opposite.

I would like your thoughts on the DMP if you did listen to it. But even then, as you said, $8k is impractical and for bragging rights, yup

From my admittedly short and less than ideal (I was not allowed to put my own sd card into the unit) audition at the Sony Centre in Berlin the DMP did not wow me nearly as much as I had expected it would so I’m certainly sticking with my modded 1Z and the TA

Do you feel your modded 1Z and TA could virtually match the sound quality toe to toe? Now I’m starting to understand diminishing returns

Very difficult to say as I didn’t know any of the music that was available on the DMP but I would say it was close but possibly a slightly different signature
