The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Yo everybody,
I'm considering the purchase of these headphones (more precisely the Premiums, 250Ohm) and I wanted to ask you a question: how would you rate their bass? This is important because I don't like bassy headphones, they give me headaches.

Thanks in advance.

Dt880 is not a bassy headphone. It has good quality bass though.

DT880 would certainly be a step up and one of the best money can buy.

Really? I wanted to buy them only to replace mine (they're dying, poor things D:). Seems like I'm doing the right choice

Another thing. Don't forget that you need a headphone amplifier to properly power DT880.

I think a Xonar ST is enough, isn't it?

Yes it is enough. I have used the 250ohm with my stx and it powers it more than enough.

Actually I prefer another, cheaper Beyerdynamic model, but DT880 is a great headphone as well.

I haven't heard Xonar ST but I suppose it would properly power the 250 Ohm version of DT880. Maybe someone else can help you better with that

I see from your profile that you're talking about the DT660. Nobody ever mentions the lower-range DT models on Head-Fi. I've read that some of them have a reputation for brightness, but rarely have I seen anybody go into much more detail than that.

And, just to add a second opinion for xavier911, the DT880 is most certainly not a bassy headphone. What bass is present is linear and has decent extension. You've got nothing to worry about in the bass department.

Yo guys, my 250 ohm pros came and they sound nice however with the fiio E9+E17, I had to turn up the volume up more than the HD600s that I have also to get the same volume.  Is this normal?  I'm not sure how much dbs this is but with the knob thing of the E9 right in the middle, my HD600s sound way more louder than my Beyers...

Yes it's normal.  The Beyers have less sensitivity than the HD600s.
