Nightelf, I have no complaints at all powering mine with the LD MKII. I got my gain on high, normal listening level is around 9-10 o'clock position on the dial. You shouldnt have any problems with the amp and 880's.

It's a very good neutral headphone, but it's a tick too smooth and careful for my personal taste. I wouldn't mind some more edges. Anyway, it's a great one for after a long day's work.

I like my DT880, it is a very different approach from my more upfront sounding headphones. It's supreme comfort and laid back sound (to me) make for relaxing sessions and are also good for gaming and movies. Although, I do find the midrange a bit lean and the treble can be a bit "tizzy" sounding compared to some of my other stuff.

You might want to try the HD600 to gain those edges, but DT880's soundstage is noticeably bigger so it's a trade off.

If you want a more edgy presentation, get the DT990. It's brighter and punchier than the DT880.

Hey anybody with the Xonar Esssence ST, use it with the 600-ohm version? How well did it work? (I'm pretty new to all this audio stuff) I've been looking at purchasing the 600-ohm version but not sure if the ST would power it well enough.
Would a tube amplifier be a good investment with it, and if so what one seeing as i have little to no knowledge at the moment about this stuff.

One amp that does pair really well with the DT880 600ohm is the Little Dot MKIV.  I absolutely love mine.  I'm actually using the DAC from the NFB-12 > LD.

The STX probably would not output enough voltage to properly drive DT880, but that would depend on how loud you listen?
A lot of guys don't like the DT880 with solid state amps. I don't usually use my DT880 s with soild state amps.

Personally, I like the DT880s with a La Figaro 336C vacuum tube OTL amp.

I wouldn't listen to anything extremely loud. If i wasn't to get an extra amp, would the 600ohm version still be worth getting over 250ohm's even if it wasn't properly powered without the extra amp.. Also to consider that, the 250 and 600 are the same price from where i'm looking on amazon for $240 or so.

For sure it does, I had a Novo here for about two weeks and I really liked it with 880. It drove it to plenty loud enough listening levels for me. I liked the Novo quite a bit.

What is your source? I would be shocked if the 880 600ohm unamped would work that well. I tried my 880 with a FiiO E11 amp and that wasn't able to drive them to any real listening level. I do tend to listen to music loud, not very loud mind you. If you aren't going to amp them I personally doubt the 600 ohm would be good for you unless you really like quite listening, and even then I would think the headphones would be starved for signal and thus be a little lean and lackluster. Just a thought.

I don't like listening to music at high volume,
but I like that music has a high detail.
then, with my amp, purchased the 600 ohm or 250 ohm?
