The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Guys I dont know if someone has already ask for a comparison between the DT880 and the T1 (gen 1).
But if lets say the DT880 is a 7/10 in score, the T1 will be..??

I own DT880 Pro and Tesla T1.1
These are quite different headphones.

The T1 is more musical, warmer, less sibilant but similarly sharp.
T1.1 is more resolving of microdetails and it's a significant step up in terms of soundstage.
DT880 Pro is a bit more neutral.

In the upper midrange, DT880 Pro is voiced similar to the HD800 while the T1.1 is closer to an AKG K7-series but less nasal.

Seems like the 880 has a new variant — the DT 880 Premium Black Special Edition 250Ω.

A natural continuation of the Black Limited Edition DT 990 250Ω and DT 770 80Ω from a few months ago, albeit with more changes. Some dealers in the past already carried black MANUFAKTUR DT 880 Premiums, but this one actually has a black grille with no writing or nameplate. It uses the T70/T90 headband as well.

Still using my 650 for my main rig and listening needs. But these dt880s are still really good I'm finding other ways to use them. Going to purchase a Vali 1 and use these when gaming and possibly bring them up to the office and have a small setup at work.

My earlier impressions stand. They have more bass than I expected based on others impressions. Vocals are very good particularly female vocals. Probably my third favorite headphone after the 650 and Blackwoods.

Hi guys, just wanna ask. I wanna buy a new headphone. Looking at either r70x or dt880 premium. I only have fiio e11k amp to drive either of these. Might buy an amp another 3months or so.. My question is, does the fiio e11k is sufficient enough to drive dt880 premium headphone?

It all depends on the model you buy, i.e. which Ohm rating. I run a 600 Ohm pair off of Schiit Magni 2. I think it works well, but I would be reluctant to plug the cans into anything weaker than that. Just a hunch, really.

Magni 2s are cheap, by the way.

r70x is warm and relatively soft
DT880 is cooler and brighter

E11K drives the 250 Ohm version just fine.
It can work with the 600 Ohm version as well if you listen to music at moderate levels.

I have a couple questions:
- Do the 250 Ohm Edition and the Pro models have the exact same drivers?
- I tried both models once (at two different times), and I liked the Pro model a bit more for design and fit, except the clamp of the headband was a bit too strong. Is it possible to stretch the headband out a bit so the clamp gets less? (Has anyone done this? I remember it's an extremely sturdy headband and I'm guessing stretching it isn't so easy..)

thanks

Beyerdynamic DT 880 PRO 250 Ohm Studio Headphones $149.99 from ClassyU via NewEgg until 21 Sep 2016.

Never heard of "ClassyU" before, and their recent buyer feedback should give anyone pause:

http://www.newegg.com/ClassyU

"Worst vendor I ever had to deal with. They won't reply to any emails you send them unless you get the entire Newegg team on their case. They can't deliver their products after taking your money. You're better off canceling any purchases with them. Avoid buying their Grados. The sales aren't even worth it considering Grados don't honor them as a merch if your headphones break to process warranty."

"Avoid this seller unless you don't mind being ignored, lied to and unable to cancel an order after they haven't shipped your purchase for a week. Will never buy from this seller again."

"They ran out of stock and instead of refunding me, they sent me different items."
