DT880 is more detailed, cooler and more open sounding than HD558.
Overall a much cleaner presentation, but also brighter and sharper. Less forgiving with poor recordings.

Better but different, you know. It's like going from a Toyota Camry to an Audi RS4.
The Audi is better overall, but it's not as good as the Toyota as a comfortable family car.

If you want to preserve the warm and relatively soft nature then go HD600/HD650 instead.
Sort of a Mercedes S-Class ; )

i mean the fiio amp has warm sound signature. so it will pair nicely with dt880. whats your take?

The FiiO E10K is not that warm. It's a neutralish SS amplifier.
It drives DT880 just fine. If you want the amp to tweak the sound signature of DT880, then a tube amplifier might be better.
If you like DT880's signature, then E10K will work well.

Got a 600ohm pair of these coming in soon!

Welcome to the bright camp, you'll find the smartest people in here.
Please don't tell anyone about this on HD650's thread, I'm probably there as well.

Great pick! Happy Listening!

Just for the sake of people perusing this thread who are still considering picking up a DT880 (or rebuying! Don't worry, we won't judge you), if you're an Amazon Prime customer, for the next three and a half hours after this post was made you can get a pair of the Pro version for $155:

I have no idea which countries (apart from the US) this is valid for, but it's a little over $35 (or the equivalent of your local currency) off normal price, and for ~$150 about the only open headphone I can think of would be the Sennheiser HD 598 (which, incidentally, is also on sale, for $110).

thanks guy. specially Me x for convincing me to buy the dt880. i already ordered one.
now i am looking for an amplifier. my budget is $100. i know there are portable and desktop amplifiers which is limmted to dektops but i am looking for an amp which i can use and carry around the house at the same time, because i will be connecting my mp3 or ipod instead computer.
the only reason i am not willing to buy a portable amplifier because if i look at their size i think they offer inferior SQ to desktop amp and low battery life.
tell me guuys which amp to go for

The Fiio E12 is likely the best to start with. I would avoid portable DAC/AMP combos, especially in that price range. You will get better bang for the buck with desktop options, even in that price range (more inputs/outputs, full size RCA and 1/4 inch inputs). There are plenty of sleek and compact sub $100 desktop amps like the Fiio K5, E10k, or SMSL SAP. Either way I would avoid DAC/AMP combos. For portable you won't get a better DAC than your mobile source without spending a fortune anyway. For desktop it is worthwhile to get a dedicated DAC, but you can always add one later. Lots of good DACs around $100 like the SMSL Sanskrit 6. But an amp is priority.
