The Beyerdynamic DT250 Thread

If it helps, I found the 80 ohm to have more bass than the 250 ohm. I didn't find the 80 ohm to be bass shy though. The 250 ohm was more thin sounding.

Hello. I have a question: Is DT250 very bass-shy? I don't own a dt250 but a dt294 headset 80 Ohm (I found cheap used one) on which I took off the microphone. But for my findings they are way too bass shy. After adding 10 dB of bass amplification in rockbox they have still weaker bass than a HD650 or Creative Aurvana Live! .
Does the dt294 differ from the regular dt250 or am I maybe biased because I had a dt770 & dt1350 before that have strong bass. I'm asking because I consider getting a dt250-250 if it has mor bass than my dt294. Thanks

DT250 is tuned to be neutral it will definitely sound less bass. Definitely less than my T1.

Thank you guys for your help!
I think that my used headphones are damaged, that they are that bass shy.
I will have to listen to the 250-250 somewhere.
A pitty that they are that unpopular, they at in no showroom of electronic sellers.

DT250 is not intended for normal consumers. It's used in broadcasting, monitoring and mastering applications. That is why they don't normally show up in a headphone retail stores

Last night, I recabled my DT250-250 with 6N OCC copper wire (braided twisted pairs), using the headphone connector from the stock cable and a Neutrik Rean 1/8" plug.

So far, the cans do sound a little faster and more open. I would say that it is a worthwhile modification.

^ nice.

I modded mine with silverstone acoustic foam. As expected: bass is now ultra tight, looks like the cup isn't vibrating anymore. Also sounds like there are less resonances across frequency spectrum. Channel imbalance stays, must be drivers.

Contrabass in Miles Davis - Kind of Blue sounds so good. Bass is really quick and tight now.

It's amusing how there are two camps, one that prefers the DT150 and the other that likes the DT250.

Keep this thread going guys. I love seeing people that have discovered these underrated cans posting here.

Yes, agree, definitely underrated, donunus. I had the 80 ohm version a few years ago and sold it because at the time I didn't need a closed headphone and I preferred the k240DF for most of my listening.  Been following this thread, and I finally was able to snag a used set of the 250ohm version....and I'm glad I did! They're better than I remember them being, or it's just the fact that the 250 ohm model actually IS better. Going from memory, the bass is tighter and the highs a bit better. They're better than  any closed phone I've heard other than the dt48 which is in a class by itself. The dt250 has far better bass however. I prefer the dt250 over my lightly modded t20rp v.2, which is quite good in it's own right. I'd say they're pretty much everything I could ask for in a closed phone....leaving aside the dt48 which I'll never part with.

same here.

Hello. I have a question: Is DT250 very bass-shy?

my dt250 - 250 ohm is not bass-shy at all
its bass is tight and textured
and, most important... no damn mid-bass hump
a juicy amp is mandatory though.

The sweet spot in the headphone world are these and the hd 650

Sound good with everything, quite amazing really......took me about $10,000 of headphones and gear to realize that these were the ones for me.

For vocal and piano (and classic 50s and 60s Blue Note recordings), don't forget the DT48E!

No. DT250-250 is much more enjoyable to me The dt880 sounds dead and sterile. It just lacks mids and has a treble spike that makes matters worse. I like it more than the t1 though LOL

Now I have heard great things about the dt880 when paired with tube equipment using tubes with forward mids though to compensate for its flaws. and almost forgot... dt880 bass is better and tighter than dt250-250 bass
