THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)

Abi Alton is the best I've ever heard for evoking emotion. The beautiful lyrics in her songs such as "It's You, It's Not Me" also help with the emotion, but that voice is the main factor in this. Her voice also passes the goosebump test with flying colours. Her X-Factor auditions are a good example.

  Currently loving Emily Barker -

Did you happen to catch Amy Duncan's  free download, a couple of days ago, as part of LinnRecords' Christmas promotion?

I did, though I don't think I have listened to it yet.

Just got my new headphones last night and had been waiting until I got them to listen to the music from Linn's promotion.   Listened to Emily Barker's song and just bought her Dear River Deluxe CD this morning.

Edit -

Just listened to it..  I think I will have to grab one of her albums, too. Haha.

If you haven't managed to find enough spare time yet, I thoroughly recommend gradually making your way through this thread. It'll take several evenings, but I promise it'll be worth it. Best thread on Head-fi, in this man's humble opinion!

Make sure you have your creditcard ready, though, coz you're going to find loads of artists whose albums you're gonna wanna buy!

...but don't just take my word for it:

Indeed, this is one of the VERY few threads on head-fi that is worth reading all the way through.

I don't know enough about your tastes in vocalists to guage what kind of stuff you like, but here's a couple of suggestions, from within this thread:

And here's a total wildcard, whom I can't understand but totally dig her husky voice and acoustic backing:

To tell you the truth, there is such a wealth of amazing music in this thread that it's almost impossible to choose!

Currently busy going through the music I already have (Went from ~$30 headphones to DT 880 Pros + a FiiO E7/E9 combo last night).  Once I finish with those, I will definitely work my way through this thread.

Female vocals make up ~75% of my music.. I'm always in search of more.
