THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)

yeah good choices, in particular Erykah with great voice and style !

I also really like the voices of Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, & Mica Paris, but they're not always stylistically my cup of tea.

When M. J. B. gets it right, her voice really soars, though. Good duet between M. J. B. & L. H., as I'm sure you know, is:

Madeleine Peyroux without a doubt for me. Her voice is just so calm and soothing. Very smooth

I've posted Red Molly before (http://www.head-fi.org/t/522812/the-best-female-vocals-your-favorite-female-singers/720#post_8033622) but they also each sing very nicely solo:

This is quirky but I really do like her voice - Zooey Deschanel:

Is it just me or does she sound like she stepped into a time machine and teleported from 1950 to 2012? Her voice just sounds like a 1950s vocalist... Speaking of retro vocals, where did I put my Puppini Sisters CD..?

....Oh, and is it just me, or does Zooey look scarily like Katy Perry?:

I know the Wailin Jennys have had a mention, some months back, but this is nice, if you like stark female harmonies:

and Cara Dillon does a nice version of the same song:

This beats the hell out of Justin Timberlake, any day!:

Emily Elbert:

Here in the UK, I've never heard of Emily but I must say, I reckon she's gonna make it BIG some time in the relatively near future. She has bags of potential and she really feels what she's singing. Seriously, I predict a star in the making; what a talented young lass!

^all 3 cd's purchased - that was an easy sell!
thanks for that one!

Glad I could share what has been a very pleasant discovery for me, too!   I think I'll be purchasing something by her very soon.

Reminds me of when I first heard Amy Winehouse (when she very first made it into the big time, I mean). She was interviewed on BBC's breakfast show in the UK and she just oozed talent and it was just so obvious that she really felt what she was singing, had a very decent foundation of musical knowledge to develop from, and would become a big star. There was a certain confidence, certainty of purpose, and je ne sais quoi to her.

I'm definitely getting those same vibes off Emily, here.

It's also nice to see that she appears to be well-adjusted, emotionally, so hopefully that will aid her in going far, too, whereas emotional instability was Amy Winehouse's achilles heel, unfortunately.
