AFAIK they are original.  The head-fi'er I bought them from said they were the brown ring pads, which I guess was a later production run.  They are in very good shape and I have a back up pair as well (without the brown ring).

The k701 looks so nice! I really want to audition this headphone, along with the HD600 (basically 2 of the big 3).
I personally don't like the colour of the Q701 though.

It's because the K701 looks squeaky clean to me. It may or may not look that great when encountered in real life, but these pictures make them look stellar.

I bought the Q Green because it was so ugly.  It made me laugh.  Turns out it's a real nice sounding can and I'm getting used to the pukey color.  Glad I have a sense of humor.
