I'd give it a couple more days and see what OD thinks of his, he might be mad at me and my Shrek Ears  They are sure not golden by any means but I still feel I know tight bass and good synergy:wink: Speaking of new stuff Pods new (1st time) Hiby R3 will be at the house any minute and I'm dying to hear my first Hiby, Woot Woot :v:

The R3 is the gateway drug to other Hibys lol. Congrats and enjoy, it's one of the best in it's price range.

Yeah, the M23 is a huge jump in form, function and sound from my previous DAPs. Hiby was great but lacks a lot of polish that the Fiio has. I really love the sound signature of the AKM chip and the Fiio together. I'm wanting to sell my EverSolo A6 and get the A8. The AKM is that much better than ESS chips, IMO.

Wow, that's saying something because I remember you really liking your A6 when you got it.

The A6 is great, but the A8 has the same AKM DAC in it that the M23 has. Thinking about it, I can just keep the A6 and use my M23 as a desktop DAC also. Them I have two flavors of audio. I'm pretty excited about AKM if you can't tell.

The other things on the A8, I thought they were implementing dual AKM in dual mono configuration but they only did the standard single chip with the decoding chip, just like the M23.

I may have done a thing... 😉
Yeah OD, only thing I disliked about the Scarlet's and nothing to do with sound:sweat: The stupid Fatfreq gold clef and name on one of the sweetest faceplates yet

Happy weekend Loungers :beerchug:

I would have preferred a much smaller logo/branding for sure. The marbleized red is too pretty to be covered up.

I was rotating through some old cassettes last night with different headphones. What I discovered was that some high quality tapes were recorded with some really good control (no noise reduction, no boosted gain, good metal or type II tape). Maxell XLIIs and TDK MA were most of my selection. I had some 'normal' types in there and what a difference. Compression and lack of depth were prominent. I don't remember all the sources I used and gear that I made these on. Earliest was dated 1983. That tape was not in great shape. Most dated from late 80s to early 90s were sounding very nice. I don't think I EQd any, trying to keep it as the engineers intended when they cut the copies. Most of these are mixed tapes, either copied from other tapes or vinyl. Later, once CD started to take over, I made tapes recorded from that as I didn't have a CD player in my car. I made small notes along with the date like "6-8-89, CD, AAD, No NR" I remember spending hours creating and cataloging my music.

The CP13 maxed out with the Senn HD58X and the M1070C. No clipping, just no more volume. IEMs were good, CA Honeydew and Oriveti OH500 and 200 sounded very nice. The Honeydew is a good bass piece and really accentuated Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here. REM's Automatic For the People also had some great dynamics to it. Again, lost a bit of headroom and soundstage but overall, a nice way to remember music as I heard some 35 (or more) years ago.

After the digital onslaught came around, these tapes were not only redundant but limiting because you were able to carry around your whole catalog without needing a suitcase. From there, I knew I needed to store these cassettes in a safe, dry place for what, I wasn't sure. So here we are. Memories of being at the beach playing Frisbee or hacky sack and living life come flooding back hearing the music as I heard it back then. Definitely worth the $96 the player cost me.

I have a question for DAP users. How do you wear/carry your DAP when you're listening? I'm just wondering if there's a better way than the quick release clip/mount system I've been using for years now. I got it from Amazon, it's no longer available but HERE is one just like it on Aliexpress. I can clip my dap to a pocket, belt, armband, etc. I'm curious what others are using.
