I still have the JVC PC-V2 CD/Cassette boombox, that I bought in 1988. It's got a Line Input, 5 band manual EQ, detachable speakers, and an internal "HyperBass" sub-woofer. The CD player stopped working in the mid-90s, but the Cassette player may still work.

I had the JVC PC-X100 as my first "real" bit of good audio gear. Dual cassette, single CD, Hyper Bass subwoofer. Pretty sure I got it for my 13th birthday. I loved it so much. I abused the heck out of that subwoofer, I think it was probably just a basic 5 1/4th inch driver at best, but I played all my early 90s rap and grunge CDs on that boom box, and it was great.

@majo123 - After seeing your recommendations in this thread, I ordered a set of Etymotic earphones.
During the recent sale, I found a set of ER2XR for $116.23 (regular price = $160).

Now I need to get a Balanced cable, with some of these nearly right-angle connectors [ http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=5734 ], so they might be comfortable to wear with the cables over-the-ear.

I love etys , not tried the er2 but heard there very good, steveoliver has the er2se and er4xr and he likes the er2se....know your a bit of a DIY guy like myself but if your after a reasonably good balanced ety cable then this one is pretty good ....it does have a bit of memory but the connectors fit solid and not too angled.

What was your initial motivation for signing up on the Head-Fi Forums?

Mine was because I was investigating portable Amp/DACs in May, 2016 - before going to spend a couple of weeks in Mississippi & Tennessee for my Mom's open heart surgery at the end of June, 2016.

I ended up buying an iFi Micro iDSD.

Well I was trolling along minding my own business and it's still costing me an arm and a leg Pleading the 5th or I'll go with the old Inquirer You know, "Inquiring minds want to know"

So my 18 year old has got me hooked on this guy, guess he's big with the college scene
