The Astell & Kern AK240

Been playing with my RWAK240+ for a few days now and its amazing how much better it sounds than the stock unit which wasn't bad to be in with.

Have a question about the true line-out (in my case balanced). Since you can still control the volume, can one use the new line-out to play to IEMS?

I tried and the sound is richer with more details coming through but also noisier and rougher. And there is a sharp bump noise when starting some tracks.

Any comments about this? The extra richness and details is interesting and worth pursuing.

Vinnie says "not balance line out is not a headphone output. It needs to be fed into a headphone amp. The new jack on the top corner is only a line out." Any damage potential?

yes but also HUGO lack a little "warm", so....here are my set-ups :

On the go = A&K + HUGO + TUR-06
At home =  A&K + HUGO + Eddie Curent 445

OMG...that's a lot of weight to carry while you are on the go!

Got a problem with my AK240 screen , a yellow/green line has appeared right down the centre of it. From top to bottom.

All the white text went greenish/yellow too for a short period. That's back to normal now though.

Anyone had anything similar?

Why the relative influx of used 240's and RWAK 240's for sale?  Is there a lack of desire to carry around such an expensive DAP?  I'm not implying anything, just a curious observation.

There is always something new and better but the 240 is a damn good DAP and will be tough to improve on dramatically....i personally would like more storage and better battery going forward....

I guess it is because Rudi and Anakchan both said they found the AK240ss superior to both AK240 and RWAK240.

I am lurking in the shadows. I am actually not convinced there can be a sound difference but I do like the SS looks.

Me thinks so, too.

Only thing stopping me from getting it is the upcoming 901s (maybe the X7 may turn out to be a surprise).

Besides, I'm pretty satisfied with my RWAK240, & I think I could live w/o the SS.

I wonder when AK will announce their next flagship DAP, though. I can already picture the 5k price-tag slapped onto it.
