The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

Sorry but if your friend told you that Tera sounded like mp3 that should have automatically rulled him out as qualified to give anybody advice on SQ (especially not to someone like you who had a Tera for a while and knows what's its all about).
I'm not saying it's not possible some other player will not eventually surpas Tera SQ (although I have not heard it yet). However even when something eventually gets close or surpases Tera SQ I doubt it will ever come in such robust pocketable package which is still completely usable without having to take out of pocket. The decision to not put screen on Tera was absolutely brilliant - made all the room necessary for those five beautiful buttons.

I have not heard the Tera but I have an Alien which is robust and screen less. Best source I have!

The point that my audiophile friend was trying to make - though perhaps not that eloquently - was that the Tera Player sounded a bit dynamically constrained and overly mushy, sonic qualities that he associates with the mp3 format. Incidentally, my friend has a very good ear and a very high end system.

Having owned a Tera Player for 4 years and being a very early adopter, I too appreciated it's robustness, diminutive size and ease of operation. It's sound quality has however been surpassed (in my opinion) by a number of current players, especially those capable of DSD playback.

SEASONS GREETINGS AND BEST WISHES TO ALL THREAD READERS!

It is back to normal but unfortunatelly that means nobody is posting at all - and once you sell you Tera they may as well close the thread completely.
On the other hand there is not much to say about Tera that has not bee argued about (to death) before, and given astronomical price hard to believe new users will be showing up here wanting to ask questions etc.

I have decided to keep it,is too wonderful to let it go.Will never sell it.
Let me tell you a true story.
Last time i charged my Tera was 3-4 weeks ago, and i did listen for 4-5 that day.I was busy with things, but Saturday and Sunday I use it for 9.5 hours in total when the battery died.
I did some gardening work and i really enjoyed the sound. Not too bad battery life given the size isn't it?
Sounds better then before mainly to my new own modified Porta Pro that takes sound and comfort to another level.
The most i have listened in a day without a break was for 7 hours and no fatigue, headache anything like that.
I don't think such long listening sessions will be possible with another player.
I truly wish from my heart were more Tera player owners out there.
And to mention to you: there is always something to discuss and write about this awesome music player.

In fact I did the same thing [listening to music] with my AK240/Wagnus Epsilon/Tralucent Ref.1 combo, in average, I'd say, 4-6 hours daily over work days (Mon-Friday) as I can't concentrate with my work without music.  Never felt fatigue with this combo either.

Cheers

Paul Davidson- where about do you live? Hope there is a Tera owner around your place.
Jmills8- when you listen to the wonderful Tera player you don't really want to be interrupted belive me,other Tera enthusiasts may agree with me :)

I live in Carlisle, Cumbria, UK. We have one specialist hi-fi store but I would imagine most people would just listen on there phone with a bluetooth speaker around here. My friend Jez has a very good hi-fi I love going round to his place to listen to music. We don't have a lot of room for a hifi in our living room and with three cats they'd always be trying to climb on the speakers.

There is no much point arguing with people saying this is better than that.
My Tera sounds different than my Paw Gold that i believe is far superior then your QPR1.
If you are up for a sound reproduction challenge we can try to arrange and meet up.
As for the Porta Pro i own 5 pairs, always been modifing and experimenting with them for the best sound for my taste.
There are lots of fake ones out there so you have to be carefully.
1.My everyday music player for listening in the evening, traveling or working is the Tera player.
2.For listening at home during the day i use Paw Gold.
3.Will i get to see you at the Headroom in January?

Unless you've heard a QPR1 claiming that your Paw Gold is superior is utterly nonsensical - so have you listened to a QPR1?!?
My Porta Pro were modified by HiFlight who has an excellent reputation for undertaking such work.
I begrudge paying to attend a glorified manufacturers exhibition hall/venue, so won't be attending Headroom next month.

From DX100 to AK380 i have heard it all,especially the QPR1.
The player sounds qood for the price, but also the sonic performance is limited.
HiFlight is a great genuine guy not doubt about it,but Porta Pro always has a bit extra to give if you play with it.
Shame you are not coming to the exhibition to show you the Paw,and my headphones.
Maybe you would like to carry on this discussion over wassap?
We can learn a lot from each other :)
