Hi guys, I read a lot of threads (here and on rockgrotto forum) regarding these Superlux headphones, but I'm still confused regarding the best model for my needs.

I need to choose one to play my bass guitar, plugged into a Zoom pedalboard with line-out, and also listen heavy metal from portable players.
Which ones do you think sounds great out of the box, possibly with no mods, for my requests?
The 681 EVO, 681 or 668 B?
Or maybe the 618 F (flat) version, to obtain the exact tone of my bass guitar?

Thanks!

Hi,
I am hoping someone can shine some light on my dim-witted dilemma.
I have the hd668b and love them. But I would prefer closed headphones.
Was thinking to grab hd669 but stumbled on somewhat negative Amazon review:

"Excelent only after I made some modifications in their construction, without note is 3/5, week low frequencies, and so powerful highs. Even, in original construction they are
HARMFUL
for ears because of sound waves interference. It is because of holes that allows the sound from back of speaker pass to the front. I CLOSED THIS HOLES. To boost low frequencies I made two holes of about 8mm in each case to outside. I think the better way is to by Superlux HD668. In the final I got a pleasant sound very detailed with good and deep low frequencies. Very glad for these price!"

Now I have no idea really where these holes are and how this actually affects sound production. I understand there is also 662F which is closed. I was wondering whether any harmful aspects mentioned in the review are really significant and whether they might have transferred onto 662F.

Imo they are ugly.

Quote:

  For EDM - HD-681 EVO
DAC - Hifimediy Sabre (~42$) or some cheap PCM-2704 chip based DAC from eBay.
Amp - HD-681 EVO doesn`t need amping but it makes it better littlebit. Cmoy would be enough but cheaper option would be DAC+Amp combo like ELE EL-D02 (does it`s job very nicely with my HD-662F & HD-681): http://www.head-fi.org/t/677895/ele-dac-support-and-appreciation-thread#post_9741300

Sooo how can I get myself an ELE?Im from Serbia.

eBay?

Hey has anyone used the HD 631 DJ style Superlux headphone, it has the 51 mm drivers closed back,  the US Dist price was so high that we did not get these until they decided to not carry them anymore and bought them at a discount, my guess the 149 MSRP was too high.  Anywho we have the few cases Avlex had left in stock... was blowing them out during december ... but not much interest...  the few studio's using them really liked them... we will have to see how they work for tracking... the bass is big ...like the driver and smoother highs.  Any thoughts on the HD 631?   Cheers Doyen

HD685 will be shown at the 2014 NAMM show...  not in production... and who knows when, Superlux and Distributors needs to get a clue, we as studio owners need CLOSED monitoring headphones in the studio... Where is the CLOSED 662 EVO shown last year at NAMM?  My suggestion is start production on them NOW and without the penis connection at the left ear cup PLEASE!

Agree on HD-662F part. They are amazing for rock music. Very natural and balanced sounding. But they might have harsh high like with many SL older models and then it`s recommended to do filter mod. I have that older version HD-662F and with filter mod they are very good!
