After reading about tube amps I've been slightly scared away from the idea of the Aune, But my intrigue and need to experiment may overpower that fear.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Aune T1 is NOT tube amp! It is SS DAC + tube buffer + SS AMP.

I suggest you to read Aune T1 thread 1st post with info and links before you decide

You should also consider Aune T1 or ESI Juli@. Had them both and imo Aune T1 sounds much more dynamical, musical, detailed with better soundstage/separation

The Aune reads well, I'm gonna read more into it. :)

I currently use a Chinese ODAC2, Chip implementation of the 2704-4398-8416 with a OAC425 amp. $62 on TaoBao.Big step up from all of the single chip USB solutions. Feeds a valve headfi amp running 6N1's and 6P15's.

If you can navigate TaoBao (and that's not an easy feat) you can find hundred's of Chi-Fi products at silly prices.

Anyone know of a mod to dampen the metal clamping bars ringing? They ring, when plucked, with a very pretty tone of about 100 hz with a nice 1250hz harmonic.

Just like a tuning fork.

what are you talking about? what cans? don`t get it.

Edit: Oh, now I understand. Glue thin sheet of rubber over it and cut it to shape? You could even choose color you want

The two metal rods that connect the signal to the right cup, and give the clamp to the hps.

They form an arch over the top of the headphones.

They exist on all SuperLux cans, even the new EVO and new 661.

They ring like a bell.

Not with old HD-681 or HD-662F. They are covered with hard plastic layer and don`t ring at all.

I am holding a pair of old HD-681 and they are covered with the hard plastic layer and they ring.

Take your thumb and forefinger, squeeze the two rods together 1cm, and pluck them. Place them next to your ear.

"boing"

Now put them on and do it.

"BOING"

Now play music and lightly touch them. You can feel the vibration of the music. That's call mechanical-acoustic resonance, and that's not desired.

Can any1 compare 662F to 681?

I have 681 but treble are very harsh. I have to cut -2 treble in FiiO E09K + E07K. On slightly cold Samsung S8500 I have serious trouble with trebles.
Bass is amazing on 681. Is it less present on 662F than on 681? I don't like listening to the metal on 681 EVO - too much bass, on classic 681 is great. I read bass quality is better on 662F than on 681. What about the amount of bass? Is there less bass on 662F (because of F-model) than on 681?

I want to buy 662F to listen metal music (most prog metal) on S8500. If trebles are too harsh on S8500 I will buy warmer DAP in the future. I have no other option because 662F are the only one cheap closed headphones to listening to the metal music.

The 668b Classic has less treble than the 681's.

Thx for the reply, but I don't want 668b. I need closed cans. I ordered 662F and I am wondering if it was good choice, because I am afraid of these trebles, that are known for me from classic 681. I would like to know how 662F sound compared to 681. I can still cancel the order... or buy warmer DAP in the future. But it would be nice if any1 writes the comparison or how trebles sound (are they horsh or acceptable).

Try different ear pads, with a smaller opening and velour. That may repair the trebles.

Sry, but can`t experience any of that.

I have both and I agree, bass quality is better with HD-662F - main difference is tighter bass but it wont go so deep. HD-681 (red) has much more enjoyable bass due to deep end and amount.
Both cans have SSsss sibilance and harshness and require one of the hardware filter mods (Fran`s mkII or mkIII mod) if you don`t want to use EQ. For HD-662F there`s same mod but with different values.
