Did you amp-ing the HD660? Because its rated 150 ohm.

Some impressions on the 660, 662 and 681 (no B's or F's):

681: Thin and weird sound to me, treble sounds hard on my ears, disconnected from the rest and really artificial. Sounds like the frequency response is a roller coaster or something. Also the most uncomfortable of the three, the earpads are shallow and hard. Returning these...

660: A lot more balanced sound, and enjoyable really (closer to the 662), but lacks some details across the frequency range and sounds somehow distant (quick test songs included Pink Floyd's Time, some Dream Theater and Eat Static). A little bit more comfortable, but the earpads are still small for my ears (I guess too small across?).

662: Luckily both the most pleasant sounding and the most comfortable of the three! Big hugging earpads, and a bit more bass and presence than the 660, but not muddy really. I'm keeping these, but the 660 isn't bad for what it is either.

If it means something to someone, my reference is Ultrasone Pro 750.

I picked up the HD681 a few days ago. I must say, they have been very impressive. I disagree that the FR curve sounds like a rollercoaster. The mids feel pretty flat with a little bump where the vocals are that bring them forward a bit and the treble reminds me a lot like the Sony MDR-V6 treble in terms of brightness -- it's too bright for some people and it can be EQ'd away. Every now and then, the bright treble brings up a few odd high-frequency artifacts in songs that I just never noticed before that can become a little fatiguing, but it is dependent on the song.  For me, the treble does sound a little too emphasized, in my opinion, but the bass extension is solid and it has, in my opinion, near the perfect quantity of bass -- for a rough comparison, I feel like the bass is not quite as tight as a Grado SR80's bass, but not overwhelming, and has a good bit less bass than the Panasonic HTF600. The bass itself feels a little emphasized compared to a pure studio monitor, but it doesn't leak into the mids. The clarity has blown me away as far as sub-$50 headphones come.

The comfort is alright on these ones -- the clamping force is a bit high, but they're more comfortable than my Koss Pro DJ 100s -- I'd give them a 3.5 or a 3.75 out of 5 on comfort.  In terms of clarity, I feel like they're more revealing than my Koss DJ 100s and definitely blow away anything else in the price range, like the JVC HARX700 or the Panasonic HTF600 (even after you EQ down the boomy 100hz bass on these). I'm going to be borrowing a friend's ATH-M50 soon to A/B test between them, because I think the Superlux HD681 will put up a good fight. Quite frankly, these don't sound like $30-40 headphones -- even if I really enjoy a pair of lower end headphones, they normally have some kind of clarity flaw that stops them from actually sounding like headphones beyond their price range. I haven't found that fatal clarity flaw in the Superlux HD681s yet. I'm very happy with my purchase and give them all but my highest praise.

Right now I'm listening to the HD660 out of an old Harman/Kardon speakers amp and they sound pretty good. I've burned them for about 50 hours with white and pink noise, they really opened up.

I'm looking for a bassy headphone. As i don't have a budget for Ultrasones or Denons, i've become interested in Superlux. And that's why i need your help. I have 4 models to choose from, and i want to make sure it's what i want. So the first thing is to find if these meet my needs.
The four models are HD662, HD681, HD660 and HD668B. (HD669 its not available where i am so i won't put it on the list)

I'll start with what i want. I own a pair of PX100-II, which are the bassiest cans i have. I am looking for a pair with better bass, and better clarity. I don't want extra strong bass, very loud bass, i want deed deep bass, the kind that goes very low in frequency without being overpowered. Can any of the Superluxes meet this? Or are they better than the PX100-II at least? I won't spend the money if there's not a real improvement.

A closed pair with good isolation would be great. My computer its on the noisy side. Reason why i have HD662 as the main contender. What can you tell me about it? I read its about as bassy as HD681, which would be a good thing i say. How good this bass is, is it boomy or unpleasant? The voices are clear enough or are they overpowered by the bass? i usually don't like muddy voices, that's why i'm looking for a better option than PX100-II.

I also thing based on the pictures i saw, that the HD662 are the most comfortable ones. The pads are bigger and seem better made. Which should help with the isolation too. On the contrary HD660 looks interesting, but i have no idea how it sounds, and unlike the Beyerdynamics, i doubt HD660 isolates anywhere as good. The pads are very on the cheap side.

The general opinions seems to be that HD668B is the best pair of Superluxes. But i have doubts i do need it. Bass is less than on the others, i don't know by how much though. It is not full closed as i would like, and because i have two balanced headphones HD 598 and HD 448, i don't really need another one, or expect it to be better than HD 598.

And remains HD681. I am interested in this one because of the bass and its look, which i think its nice. Again, semi-open, probably not good isolation. How about the highs, are they as harsh as some say? Is this a problem for all the Superluxes or mostly this and HD668B? If its only bright i can temper that using EQ. If its distorted then its a problem.

So what do you think, am i right to say HD662 is the closest to what i want? Is it any better sounding that PX100-II?

Thanks for any answer.

Hi,

The 2 plastic tube things from the headband of my 668b are broken.
Only the plastic is broken and inside I can see a metal rod which isn't broken.

What should I do?

Will the metal eventually break?

Can I get warranty for this?

Sorry for my bad English.

Greetings,

HD681 will be the best for you if you can do the filter mod. It has really nice bass: big and deep, may be a little bloated but it's fine with me. In stock from, the high may be too much emphasized so you need to turn down the volume before you have a headache.

I tackled the piercing highs with EQ, but I'm also pretty unaffected by fatiguing headphones.

To be fair, the measurements at InnerFidelity and HeadRoom both show that HD681 as one of the more balanced headphones for its price bracket, but it also has a slight V-shape curve in its presentation.

haven't heard the other two, but the 681 is far from flat.

I guess I'm just sensitive to mids in general.  I'd rather a mid-forward headphone than a recessed one.  That being said I still think the Superlux are a decent bargain headphone.  My boss has been using mine and is loving it.
