I see. I thought so too. Have you ever compared your amp to some of the direct drive amps such as the BH?

No, I only tried couple STAX amp, I am not too crazy about amplifier with EL34/KT66/KT88, Directly Heated triode Big bottles are in different league. Also transformers I used do have flat frequency response 20Hz-20Khz. I have thought about building a direct drive amp, but these DHT tubes consume too much power to justify driving these STAX headphones.

In terms of the best of the best headphones, you have to look at electrostatics. And one of the finest electrostatic headphones (the STAX SR-009) has been improved, evolved. We take a look at the new STAX SR-009S, including comparisons to its predecessor and measurements.

The measurements in this video were made using:

Chord Hugo 2 TT DAC - Mjonir Carbon amp from Iceland or blue hawaii + 009S + Chord M-Scaler = ultimate end game if one is rich? ^^

Maybe on paper but when listening to the Chord Blu/Dave, DCS and ARC REF 9 I much preferred the musicality of the latter.

Great review. But next time instead of saying "zero zero nine" and "zero zero nine-s" go with just the "nine" and "nine-s." It will save you some breath.

I've not heard any of the Stax products but am intrigued. Can anyone give me impressions of the 009 or 009S compared to MrSpeakers VOCE and MrSpeakers Ether 2? Thanks.

Interesting, in that Video, he used a custom 845 amplifier to drive the Stax. After building two 845 amplifiers, I have thought of building third one using 813 or GM70 tubes.

lol that portable rig.

Just get a KSE1500! It's like 95% of the quality and like 100x the convenience :)

Agree use 1500 v nice, re transportability in between sr9s and obravo - need to take amp on top.

Pro - smaller than d10
Con - less quality and sr7/sr9 easier to wear (at least for me).
- Shure DAC is a pain w MAC since it drops out if freq >= 48k. Don't know why. This does not happen w D10 or kse1500 and A&K ... (anybody any idea how to rectify?)

Mmm...ah no. I own the 009 and the KSE1500. They both have their own purpose: one is for reference home listening, the other for portable listening (on the go since the KSE 1500 offers good isolation). If money is no object, get both. If budget is an issue, the KSE 1500 is an easy sell (if you are into the eStat sound). If SQ is top priority, the 009 earns my easy reco. There’s just no comparison, based on numerous listening sessions over the past few years.

I’ve briefly auditioned the 009 with the portable Stax driver.....sorry but the 009 sounded horrible. It is a complete equipment mismatch. It is crime against humanity.

Same results with the Voce. What a lifeless piece of....

You need a quality eStat amp to make both (009 and Voce) really “sing”....

Horses for courses.
