i bastardized my drivers with lots of love today, and im excited about the results.

i removed as much plastic as i could, sonsidering that i still need to leave the plastic ring tab to hold the driver into the aluminium cup.

the front plastic had to go too

It is nice to see someone else taking off the front plastic. How did the removal go for you? Obviously it worked but was it scary or dangerous at any point? Also how long did it take you and what tools did you use? I've done this myself but another perspective on the process might help others who are considering this mod.

I only used one of these  http://www.whimsie.com/offsetsnips.jpg
but a very small one, i picked it up today for 3$ at a hardware store. and it wasnt hard, the hardest part was to be careful, the driver is pretty damn close to the pastic grill. and i did the same with the excess of pastic in the back. the whole thing took no more than 30 minutes, luckily there were no casualties

Good idea Chris, I just bought a pair from Amazon.

Lol. no problem. But, I wish you would have waited for the coupon.. Which I will pass on to anyone who wants it by the way. Its good for everything at over at avhifi.com. I don't think I should post coupon in the forum, but I'll gladly PM it till the cows come home. I think I will use it to pick up some bagels.. (unless someone wants to sell me a pair? pretty please?)

-edit- Also, according to that website that was linked a while ago concerning grado drivers... apparently the iGrados have the same as the 225's.. As always, I have no idea of actually knowing this. But that is what they claimed.. Let us know if you think the drivers sound any different.

Do you have a link explaining this? I thought the iGrados have the same drivers as the SR60 with stressing of the mylar.

As far as grado states it on their site here is the difference in drivers on the SR grados
iGrado and SR60 have the same drivers
SR80 is de-stressed
SR125 is the same as SR80 except for a better voice coil wiring
SR225 is the same as SR125 but binned better (max 0.05 dB difference between drivers vs. 0.1 on drivers in lower numbers)
SR325 same drivers as SR225

There are obviously other differences in the grado line but as far as drivers go this is what grado states on their site. There may be additional differences like doping and mylar thickness as well.

edit: the Alessandro MS1 has a "UHPLC voice coil wire", and is also de-stressed, which is the same thing that Grado mentions on their site for the first time with the SR125.

If grado charges the same for replace drivers + cable for sr60 to sr125 ... 25$ and then 45$ for sr225 and sr325... i think thast pretty much proof of which models shares drivers. and the igrado is only 50$ I dont think it can have $45 drivers(?)

A valid point sir.. But, they also could just make up whatever prices they want.. Keep in mind that no matter how much they charge for the drivers. They don't pay much to get them made by the thousands. They could just do this pricing to make their claims more valid.. Although, I believe the 225 shares drivers with the 325 and they are a bit different. The price seems to prove that much :)..

By any chance, would anyone happen to know of a good alternative to nylon multifilament for cable sleeving? I can't seem to get my hands on any in Singapore (the most I could find was techflex, and at a very very limited number of specialist shops, at that), and I hate techflex when it comes to cable resleeves. At the same time, I feel that the thick rubber insulation of the Canare L-4E6S cable that I'm using is causing it to be stiff (in the sense that it coils weirdly and is not as pliable as I would like). I've considered shoelaces, but so far I haven't managed to find hollow ones. And buying online is ridiculous because $15USD for shipping alone on a roll of multifilament is simply stupid.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Depends on what diameter you need but paracord with the inner strands removed is the cheapest way of getting nylon multifilament.
