tried out the included silver plated copper (litz?) sony cable as a normal 3.5mm cable

it didnt work :frowning2:

so i guess it really does only have the 2 poles connected (balanced; hot and cold?), and no/not ground!

so the included cables are strictly PHA-3 (and pono) only!

Yup, strickly for PHA-3 only.  However, you can make an adapter for the included balanced cable to work in single-end operation.

Or if I somehow could unscrew the plugs metal jacket/sheath make some nice RCA/phono leads :) and of corse keep the 4 3.5mm jacks for other uses!

But I can see myself getting a pha3 and/or Pono in the future so I'd better not!

Trying to make an interconnect out of the Z7 balanced cable?

Anybody able to compare the Z7 against the D7000?

I got mine Feb 10. SN = 10424

Wow.  Already over 10K sold.

Not too bad (I think) for a relatively high-end, somewhat niche headphone.

Well 10000 made anyway (I don't think they sell them in order of serial numbers :) )

I'm hoping to make it 10001 soon :)

I own both (in stock form) and I find the Z7s superior by quite a margin.
Their sound is more layered, they have better depth and smoother treble.
D5000's sub-bass is significantly better though.

The only thing I found the Z7 to do well in was the soundstage which is good for a darkish headphone.

The mids lack body which is strange considering the mid bass is boosted and treble on the dark side. This usually gives a thick, romantic mid range. The mids remind me of the Denon D7100, lacking body and weight.
