I actually really quite like the MDR7506 and I've heard the MDR1R is pretty good but other than that I don't see any other compelling products. I don't even like them all that much for their non-audio things. Most of it is overpriced and I hate the ps4. #PCMASTERRACE
I sure hope this is a true R10 successor, if so I'm all over this headphone. The R10 is the best headphone I've ever heard out of the countless headphones I've auditioned, no other headphone has wow'd me the same way as the R10.
Hopefully, the socket isn't propertiary. I'm going to be really disapointed if these are semi-open because I've got open headphones for home use already.
I haven't heard an R10. But no doubt the sound-signature of it is not like the DX1000. However the DX1000 is known for its soundstage experience which I assume puts it in relevance to the R10 experience; especially a concert like experience with a tube-amp.
By a wide variety of genres from electronic, pop, rap, acoustic, classical, jazz, rock, metal, etc. I'm also referring mainly to the bass-heavy version.
I haven't heard the JVCs but I have heard a wide variety of orthos, electrostats, and dynamics. The R10 was simply the most beautiful sounding headphone I've ever heard and to my ears the best dynamic headphone ever made. I thought it was the only dynamic headphone in the same league as the Orpheus and SR-009 and I preferred it's sound signature which is why I consider it the best I've heard. The R10 had the best vocals and midrange I've ever heard. I'm a sucker for anything beautiful sounding.
The DX1000 is a good headphone no doubt, but there are other closed cans today that are just as good (TH900, LCDXC, FAD Pandora Hope VI, Alpha Dog, ZMF x Vibro) and the R10 is possibly the best closed can ever made.
Releasing $1500 headphones compared to the likes of other audio companies won't put them back in the ball park unless they compete. Hopefully whatever the price it is, it will stay in production for 3-4 years instead of discounting after 6 months and discontinuing after 1 year.
This flagship should be high end to the likes of audeze, Beyer etc. And sound reference.
Promoting products with the likes of Denga and other house djs is not going to do any good. Most people know Sony spells quality and durability but that seems to be declining now.
it just feels like the MDR-ZX100 with crap grade metal on the extenders, and a rubbery headband. Superlux HD681's have better build for 30$. The MDR-7506 are still good on build quality for the price imo, but man...
Other than the point that these could be [easily] run in a balanced configuration, that image - if of a pre-production unit, doesn't really tell you anything.
