I cannot see the ALAC file format in the screenshot, can I?

ALAC is Apple Lossless...

It's more commonly packed as .m4a and not as .alac.

Well, I am not an Apple customer. It may explain why this has been for the first time I read about that .m4a is actually ALAC. One can learn something new every day. 😉 Thanks for explanation.

Actually .m4a is not ALAC. .m4a is akin to mp3 and ALAC is akin to FLAC. So .m4a is standard definition and ALAC is high definition or lossless. In a nutshell, hope it helps!

This is not strictly true. Apple audio is packaged in an m4a container, but it can be lossy or lossless (AAC or ALAC). So if you have ALAC-encoded m4a containers, they are indeed lossless like FLAC. The difference is FLAC has its own container (.flac) and lossy mp3 as well (.mp3). Confusing no doubt.

No .m4a is a container that can contain both lossy data aac or lossless data alac so you can’t just from the file extension see if it is a lossy or lossless file

Ah yes. I stand corrected. I got confused with the extension and the container. I meant to say AAC vs ALAC which is akin to MP3 vs FLAC.

I tried both yesterday.

dawn+ had the effect @nc8000 described , a weird echo on mozart string quartets. And lack d the bite of FEv2

Dawn classic sounded indeed pretty nice but i felt the holo and stafe werent as big as FEv2 plus

Midnight on classic and plus lacked big stage of FEv2 plys but again on classic wa nice as opposed to plus which had the same wffect as dawn plus.

reverted to FEv2
Hello dear friend. Please, if possible, are you able to provide me with both Mr. Walkman firmware updates for the Sony Walkman NW-ZX300? I already have " The One ", but i was looking for DMP-300 FEv2 and FE. PM to me if possible, ok. Thanks in advance.

So I decided to try this DMV_FEV2 on my hardware mode WN1A but it went into a reboot loop so I got scared and I and I installed this stock report for the MP_FEV2 and I deleted the files from the hard drive Now I am back using the chameleon, but I want to use the one maybe it came installed with the Walman one from Steve at MPO, but I was curious to see how it sounds on stock. It was very bad idea.

This player after the release of the various firmware made me literally crazy.
I discovered its potential and the various trade-offs between firmware and regions.
CEV has the best three-dimensionality but lacks the resolution of CN or U;
Region E it is open and very precise but sharp on the highs, MX3 excellent compromise but not clinical like U.
After several attempts I was able to find the best combo to drive the R10s really well; for this type of headphones, with a soft tone I tried a compromise with BRIGHT, more defined but less open sound than midnight, which thanks to the echo of the U region in part I have remedied.
Very dynamic region, the most transparent in my opinion, but slightly sharp on 4 khz, problem solved thanks to plus mode v.1.
The result is truly amazing, the R10 sounds really detailed, with a natural, open, three-dimensional tone just right, but above all with the best definition that the WM1A can give.
I piloted the sony with much more expensive dacs and amps, even on a € 11,000 system, but being a headphone with low impedance and a lot of sensitivity, it does not require great power to be dynamic and sounding; the difference was there but it did not justify the € 10,000 difference.
Fully satisfied with this WM1A.
Bring these settings too if you like and let me know!
REG.U
PLUS MODE V.1
DAC INITIALIZATION V.1
These settings Rock!!
