Exactly, and it is a full MQA Decoder, but for local playback only. It doesn't work via USB DAC mode.

I actually did an A/B test of the WM1A (with WM1Z Mr Walkman mod installed) versus a WM1AM2, and the M2 sounds worse (dynamics and technicalities). Kudos for Mr Walkman for giving us audio nirvana with the Walkman mods!!!!

i tried out some big boy dac amps (xduuo xd05 pro and fiio q7) and the walkman hangs with them in terms of sound quality. the xduuo was very nice, bass was very emphasized without sounding artificial. 1a will be around for a long long time.

I’ve tried many daps over the years but nothing has matched my WM1A with the custom firmware. I had access to any dap money could buy so that’s how many I’ve tried.

i am with you , more than 10,000 hours of usage and still in love with it

it's also fantastic that i can use it as usb dac on my laptop and with my JBL speaker via bluetooth

I've a feeling one does not need anything more than either a wm1a or a hiby r6 pro ii

It's tiny but funky. That solid copper and gold chassis is so nice to hold and carry around. The R6 Pro II is like a feather by comparison but larger, and the last two, yeah, big boys (but also beautiful sound).

Nah, for now they each provide their own flavour: WM1Z is S-Master, RS8 is R2R and DX300 MAX is delta sigma. Each have their own amp tonality too, and all three are top-tier technically. I don't use the R6 Pro II much but it's a review unit so isn't going anywhere (but my drawer). It's a really good performer but can't compete with the other three for my ear time.

r.i.p, atleast you confirmed that wm1z > r6 pro ii for you, i was guessing as much, was wondering if i should test it or just send my wm1a to get modded.. now I just need the funds

It's different. If you need Android/streaming it's a no contest. SQ is subjective, some will find the R6 Pro II more technically competent, but WM1Z is more musically refined to my ears and Z1R synergy is unmatched.

That's all I need to hear I'm sure a modded 1a would atleast compete with the r6 pro ii, along with the future mrwalkman update which should give a nice boost to SQ.. no contest for me I guess. I've found the wm1a pairs best with my iems
