Seen where people have sold out a good working setup to fund the latest new "thing" only to be brutally disappointed and that's harsh. Like you if you have a sound, you like stick with it, can still engage with the community. If you keep chasing the "Grail" it's a never-ending spiral and is what it is, a game of diminishing returns.

Admittedly we're blessed with the Sony Linux based DAP's as they have such tremendous flexibility versus many others where your locked in & locked out. Sadly, Sony Corp decided to go with the latter, so no sale here...

I'm lucky enough to have a local audio store that carries the newest high end iems/daps so I get to try them out.

Yes they are nice, not all, but some high end ones do represent a substantial upgrade vs the daps/iems mentioned on this thread imo. But if you've never heard them, you won't miss them ;)

I've been tempted once or twice by a certain set, but ultimately a lot of the newer high end releases are disappointing imo. About 1 in 5 actually sound outstanding.

Still, good to know how high the proverbial ceiling is. Any of you had the chance to go to an audio meet/can jam recently?

The market demands android DAP, Sony thinks they have to follow. But without Mr walkman 's firmware, I do not think they have a good value.

Sony literally had gold in it's hand. All free, all gratis, all Sony needed to add was streaming. Now we're stuck with a locked in locked down Android product not remotely interested...

I mean, it was never to Sony's interest to provide these sound customisations to us. Mr Walkman's firmware merely unlocked what was otherwise artifically segmented by Sony.

As @andnej said, without Mr Walkman's firmware, the players do not have good value.

Yes hey are good value even without the Mr walkman firmware. At least the small A-series at 100-150€ are very good value. The new firmware just makes them no brainer.

I cannot comment how "good value" are the larger/more expensive players - also depends, if you paid 1200€ or 400€ for the same :)

I certainly loved my 1Z even before the modded fw

is there a chance the M1 models will get DSEE ultimate eventually?
I think because of the android OS it's not accessible like the Sony OS firmware. I only use direct source but was wondering how good it might sound - maybe it's just Sony's effort to match Mr Walkman's tunings

Just a heads up to all. We’re currently testing some custom regions that IMHO take the already stellar Walkman one firmwares to a whole new level. Depth, realism and details. These are the key words. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, @MrWalkman strikes again. Stay tuned folks!
