WM1A/1Z tops out at 250mW @ 16 Ohms, TA-ZH1ES tops out at 1,200 mW @ 32 ohms which is a significant differnce. FEv2 Plus and Project Z Plus keep the WM1A/1Z in high power mode that's the differnce your hearing. Majority of headgear benefits from more power helping to sound more dynamic & authoritative, equally for portables a balance must be struck for obvious reasons.

Q-6
How much does the DMP-Z1 top out at?

From this page: (Scraped from link, no inference meant by fonts)

Headphone Out (Stereo mini-jack)
FREQUENCY20–40,000 Hz
MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)570 mW + 570 mW (High Gain)
Headphone Out (Balanced standard-jack)
FREQUENCY20–40,000 Hz
MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW)1,500 mW + 1,500 mW (High Gain)

Knowing how EU models get nerfed - I'm impressed to see those same specs on the UK page!

As an aside / back on track - The line out of the A55 really has impressed me far more than I thought it would / should - it really is a little gem, especially on A50Z.

Is that the reason why FEv2 and Project Z causes faster battery drain?

It is not really only "louder" though.

I haven't changed my usual listening volume at ~50 for flac and ~60-70 for DSD (which tends to be quiet).

On Plus yes it's not so much volume, unlocking more power to drive the IEM/HP while the player is solely on the internal battery. If you A/B a well known track Plus mode should sound a little more dynamic & authoritative.

Probably because the Z1 does not come under the rules for portable gear in EU

Coming back to FEv2 after a week with project Z i find a much better synergy with my Campfire Vega. I've always been looking for sound gadgets with the warm, bassy and detailed signature the Z provides, but now that the Vegas delivers that on it's own the sum of both looks like sugar with sugar. However, it's great to have both mods to decide depending on your headphone's signature. I must say that i'm normally really sceptic about the firmware changes, my ears normally don't perceive slight changes that others find noticeable. But this time i'm absolutely impressed, it takes my zx300 to another level.

One thing i'm not sure if i have understood is about the next mod. @MrWalkman has detailed that it's expected to be and update for both FEv2 and Project Z. Does it mean that it is one mod with the best of both or that the FEv3 and project Z ve2 are coming separated? Having two signatures could be great...

Anyway, whatever it will be the new project, i wish for MrWalkman a life full of unexpected massages, the best hop and abundant and excellent sleeping hours for the rest of his days. Thank you, thank you and more thank you, this kind of inputs are the best expression of the potential that lies in this kind of virtual communities.

As I understand it, it is just a tuning to be applied on top of either fw, but I could be wrong

It will be an update to both firmware versions, and not a combination of the two firmwares into one.

The plus mode drives the S-Master in a higher powered mode but at least to me that does not mean more volume

Thank you for your fast answer!
Does it mean that the installation will only consist in reverting the tuning and installing the new one? (Using the correspondent firmware depending on having the FEv2 of the project Z installed, but not installing them again, only the tuning archive).

As the new external tuning works different a bit, there will just be a different package altogether.

in "Plus" mode.

In "Classic" mode it shouldn't be too different than the stock firmware in regards to battery usage.
