I've just installed the latest update for my NW-A55 (also changed region code to J). Creating the database really takes ages.

Too early yet to comment much on the sound - I have tried out the various sound shaping functions (before switching them all off and going direct). Starting with my trust Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10's - gonna go bluetooth soon whilst doing some chores. I will report back with my thoughts later after some serious Rush headbanging.

Windows defender and my anti-virus kicked in during the install process - hot tip - rather than just closing their scary messages, go through their options to allow the software to run - doing this enables the next part of the process to continue - simply closing the warning windows tend to stop it working properly.

Appendum:

My A55 kept resetting after playing a couple of minutes - it did this twice so I've gone with the non-R version

Not only is my 1A sounding better than it ever has before, I came across a pair of my old Sony MH1 ear tips - to me these beat out even there likes of the Spiral Dot +, these are to me the final piece of the puzzle - whoever it was in the cellphone department that devised these tips really needs a pay rise!

Yeah, the non-R version seems to be a bit buggy on some players.

On mine it's all good though.

I'll see if I can do something about it.

Is this also why the R FE seems to consume the battery twice as fast as the R (12 hours play time as opposed to 25-30 hours) ?

I don't think so, to be honest. Maybe it's just using more processing power, given that it's based on the ZX300.

What was the R based on ?

Hi,

Do we not need to run model switcher for flashing latest modded firmware on WM1A?
I have installed both DMP-WM1_FE and DMP-WM1_FE_Ext_Tuning

Thanks,

Hey, as per the instructions on the website and on this thread, there's no mention of any model switcher.

Perhaps a lecture series on what the instruction manual is and what it can do for you prior to being able to access the files?

@MrWalkman I was going through the old thread where initially the mods and processes were mentioned. There I found the information on 1a/Z+ firmware and importance of model switcher. I downloaded the firmware from the link in your signature but the new link and instruction do not have anything about model switcher and that confused me.

I see.

Well, I wouldn't miss such an important step if it would apply to this firmware as well.

I hope you'll like it.

Regarding A50R, and its little bugyness, I will try some things to see if I can get rid of the "An error has ocurred" error that is showing up for some users.

It's a great mod, but I understand that the error can be annoying, and that's not the experience I want to "provide".

I personally get it only right after installing, after saving the clock setting, but then I get no error at all.

I may also be able to get the NFC working again.

Looking forward to it!

After finding my MH1 tips, I had another rediscovery, and it’s a great one!

no pictures, they’re a bit the worse for wear, the pads are shot - and as sacrilegious as it is, there were allowed to get very dusty - anyway, facing it as a full Sony setup, I’ve brought my old MDR-SA5000 back from the dead.

they were classed as super fast / dynamic back in the early 2000s when they were brought to market, that’s still true nearly 20yrs later.

a great little combination!

edit: this is the nearest I’m prepared to go in terms of a picture...
