Hey, of course it's not normal.

However, I just checked and the links are working fine, so it's not an issue on my part.

What are the audible differences between Mk11 and FE?

I think it would be better if you would test it yourself if you are curious.

I am not the best at describing differences.

I can tell you that it doesn't have such a nice sound signature as FE though.

If you want to switch to MK2 and already have installed FE, do you have to restore the original Firmware first?

Yes, using the StockRevert of the firmware you currently have installed.

It's the little touches that make the most impact...

I've just installed the A50R FE fw, and am impressed at @MrWalkman 's attention to detail on the 'guide to high quality sound' page, where the capacitors are shown as not applicable on this device.

The play timer from the higher end models is also a nice touch :)

A55 won't get as much use as its bigger, older brother - but, it's great for a kickaround player!

Thanks, it's nice that you noticed it 😁

I don't know how, but I missed that on the previous DMP-A50R mod.

That’s true but Sony did up the caps uf from 47 to 100 from the A40 and it’s noticeable! The bass is just incredible on the 50(R) Fe firmware mod because of this. It’s really, really nice with DC Phase Linearizer. Definitely an upgrade!

For those confused about which one to get between A40 vs A50 get the A50 the firmware mod make the differences more clear. The A50 has better hardware and it shows IMHO. It’s also an upgrade cosmetically from the A40 slightly bigger body, curved and the SD card slot are all better made than it’s predecessor!

That said, it remains to be seen if the gap can be closer with an A40 FE vs an A50 (R) FE sonically.

Nevermind...

A40 and A30 already have the FE version. It includes the sound signature, as well as the more stable installation procedure (that is done at the first startup when installing the firmware).

And the A50 can handle more tracks in the database
