Think most Sony owners will agree the H/O is the best route... it's on par if not better the L/O imo.

How do you have more control? You are using an external amp with its own volume control. Won't argue with the discernible sound differences since there are two many variables.

using H/O you can still use tweak the sound if you fancy it... yes I am using an external Amp (PHA-2) with both the ZX1/F887, I set the volume to max on the Walkman and control the volume from the PHA-2.

Then essentially what you are doing is using the H/O as an existing L/O, correct? Why not just use the L/O instead? I think I understand what you are saying, but you can control your volume much more precisely using only one pot. As well as other measurable differences, but that is for a different discussion.

Battery life on its own is excellent , but terrible with USB out, not worth it for me,
Shame, I guess I'll be using it more via headphone out into the amps

 
I wonder is a firmware update can help correct that?
