Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model

Presumably Sony must agree with those sentiments on some level, as the ZX2 contains a SD card slot for extra storage, and has a purported 60 hour run time for mp3 playback.

Costs mucho £££ or $$$, and still limited to the size of the card you have, so more expense again.  Still step in the right direction for sony anyway!

Bit of a price drop on amazon uk atm.  Down to £500 or so now.

What sort of battery life are people getting from the zx1's nowadays?

If I try to stretch it, I can get 7 to 8 hours.  It can be as short as 3 to 4 hours.  I only have the eq running, none of the other sound enhancements running.  I listen to about a 50/50 mix of high bit rate mp3 and Hi Res with the 7 to 8 hour number.  The 3 to 4 hour number is when I'm streaming Pandora, so the wifi is running and the screen is on a lot.  The screen time makes a huge difference.  To get close to 8 hours, I'm running on a single play list and only using the side buttons rather than turning the screen on.  I also have wifi turned off in that config.

This may have been answered in the past, but has anyone had any luck in getting metadata to show up when streaming the ZX1 over bluetooth? When ever I stream to a hire car or my wifes car I just get the message "device doesn't support track meta data" or something like that. When I use my HTC One metadata shows up fine when bluetooth streaming. Do I need a special app to do so? I have tried using Neutron player as well but no go..

cheers in advance

Googling a bit, this appears to be related to specific music player apps. Some send the metadata, and some don't. That said, there have also been a lot of improvements to bluetooth in AOSP since 4.1.1 which the ZX1 runs, so that could also be related. I know that Google Play Music supports it, you might try installing that on your ZX1, and giving it a try. If that doesn't send the metadata, then it's related to the older version of Android (or Sony's tweaks to Android - rthey're more substantial on this device than their phones, because they had to make changes to the kernel to support higher bit-rates). If the metadata works with that app, then it's Sony's music player that's the problem.

thank you, I'll give Google Play a try then! I have a feeling it's the device/Android because Neutron does send Metadata on my HTC One but not on my ZX1. I'll find out tonight..

I tried with Google Play Muisc and it is a no go, so looks like it's a limitation of the version of Android then... I seem to remember reading that in order for the SBH-52 to show titles via bluetooth it has a dedicated app. Oh well thanks for the help

just bought this little jewel. Did'n buy the ZX2 becouse of the following reasons:

1) I like the design of ZX1 with its brushed aluminium frame much more
2) judjing by pictures, ZX2 seems chunkier
3) I use only FLAC uncompressed cd-rips (no 24-bit Hi-Res Audio) so 128mb is more than enough

I'm totally loving it!!! I use it with Bang & Olufsen H6 when I'm home; Beyerdynamic T51i when commuting and RHA MA750 when working at the office. I used the "volume hack" (disabling sound enhancement app) and I feel no urge to buy an amp.

Since I use it ONLY as a DAP (I use my smartphone for all the other stuffs) I disabled all the non-multimedia and, most of all, I'm using Nova Launcher with only one home page and a minimal wallpaper+widgets combo which I think is way too cool!!!

How did you create that screen?  I'd like to do something like that with the music player and Pandora.  The two things I mainly use the unit for.

well...

1) installed Nova Laucher and set a one page only home + disabled status bar on top + set drawer background as black with no transparency
2) used Bubble UPnP (I use it instead of stock sony player becouse of DLNA functions) and Spotify 4x3 widgets (resizing them with Nova)
3) took a screenshot and opened it on PC with Photoshop
4) created a black background image with Sony, Hi-Res, Walkman and Spotify logos (saved from web). I used the screenshot as a template to place them correctly

Lot of work for a cool effect :) :)

PS. new version with leather effect background: even cooler!!

this is my FINAL home page! I had to work hard with Photoshop. Not being able to set Bubble widget colors in order to match Spotify's ones I had to make it transparent and draw the backgroung directly on wallpaper. Moreover, I didn't like the green line under Spotify widget but since you can't remove it, I drawn a yellow one under Bubble widget and coloured the "W" logo to match it. A lot of tuning but the result is uber-slick!!
