I just received my Vannuys pouch (I also ordered the Cruzerlite as I think that Anak is right, it will need both). I ordered it on taobao and it does not seem fake.

It will depend if the one who makes the device (in this case Sony) will actually make a new OS (4.3) build for the ZX1, which, for me, is unlikely.

Just curious, have they updated their older daps in the past?

All Sony Phones are Android atm, and they update those. The DAPs I'm not sure but they do have DAPs running Android before this.

Yes. I own NWZ-F806 (Android based) which has had updates.

So how's my beloved ZX1 stacking up against the AK240.... is there a £1700 (GBP) SQ improvement?

Which is better from a sound quality perspective:  ZX1 with a DAC/Amp like the PHA2 or ZX1 with an Amp like the ALO RX Mk3?  I ask because my understanding is that the ZX1 has an extremely good DAC and it seems strange to spend so much on the player with the good DAC and not use it.  Of course, I'm assuming that either of these options is better than just using the ZX1 directly - I will be using Etymotic ER4P IEMs.

I've been testing the AK240 with a few friends and they quite agree the 240 is better than the ZX1 xD

Soundstage (Wider, Taller), and resolution. One even compared it to his 901 and says only the 901 has better bass but all the rest is pretty close.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect it's more crossfeed than EQ, but probably some of both. For me, it creates a holographic soundstage that has me totally addicted to it.
