Sony NW-ZX300

Damn that's too complicated just to use a balanced cable. I have soundmagic hp151 which has only one 3.5mm entry for cable. Do you think it will work with balanced cable?
Almost certainly not. If the plug that goes into the phone is a standard trs (with 3 metal bands) deffinately not as there is then only 3 wires in the plug. If it is trrs (with 4 metal bands) it might as there might then be 4 wires

But don't almost all the headphones use standard 3.5mm connector even if they come with balances cables. I have seen headphones like that.

Yes but then they have 2 x 3.5 trs (or even just ts), one into each cup. Balanced requires 4 wires from the source and all the way to the cups, 2 wires per driver/cup. Some phones with single entry into just one cup have a 3.5 trrs plug which supports 4 wires. The 4.4 is a trrrs that supports 5 wires (4 live plus ground)

Thanks so basically there is no way to use balanced cable with these headphones?

This really sucks. Industry should move to adopting 4.4mm as standard since 3.55mm is already extinct in most consumer phones. And most high end headphones are bought by enthusiasts who would prefer 4.4mm over 3.5mm.
It is probably way more than 99,99% of all source devices that have 3,5 trs or trrs output so therefore most headphones also do, the number of buyers who care about balanced audio is miniscule. Also while I have never heard or seen your phones, they are more like a mass market consumer headset so not what is likely to benefit much if at all from balanced

What’s the best way to use the zx300 as a transport to non-Sony devices? From the headphone out or from the proprietary wm port at the bottom? I have seen a cable that allows connection from the the Sony wm-port to rca has anyone tried this? Is this superior to connecting from the headphone out? Thanks

That depends. If you want to make use of ZX300 internal DAC, use the headphone out. If you have a more capable portable DAC/AMP then take the route of connecting them to the WM port

I don’t think anything beside ZX2 from Japan can use the WMport that way.

By using the RCA from Walkman port ?
No, by using the digital out from the WM port. Wait! Did he say RCA from WM port? I don't think Sony is doing it on any of their current models in the market. The last one was probably NWZ-A17. Analog out from WM port is strictly a no go.

This is how I'm connecting my Mojo to ZX300 by using Sony

WMC-NWH10 cable.

The ZX1, ZX2 and A series support the wm port to analog but not ZX300 or any of the WM 1A/1Z models do and the A models dont if you install the WalkmanOne custom fw as it is based on the 1A/1Z fw
