OK, great, but what do you mean by "reconvert?" Rip again (or play from original vinyl), or run WMA files through a converter set to WMA --> WMA? Thanks again for the help -- I'm going to hold off on returning the unit until I hear back from you.

It looks ugly, for 50 quid it should look sweet and futuristic for a remote. :) Then again if it's the only thing that works and if you really want a remote then I guess It's your only choice. I myself don't mind taking something out of my pocket, not that big of a deal to me.

Of course I use sansa clip for active use, working out, yard work, etc. It is so tiny and clips to your shirt so you don't need remote :) I guess I am echoing the under 50 dollar thing. I got my clip + on black Friday for 25 bucks years ago.

Get a cheap small dap for jogging and what not, that's my advise, or damn even your cellphone should be lighter than zx300. I'm thinking zx300 is good for home and commute, but not so much for active use.
I only do long walks (and push-ups, stretching at home) :). Nearly every activity I can do with my ZX300. It's not the taking-it-out of my pocket that bugs me per se; it's when I have to do it in one of the following scenarios: - when I'm in a hurry and thus risk dropping it.
-when it's raining a little (when there's heavy rain, I don't use it ofcourse)
- when I'm walking in dubious neighborhood (bigger chance of getting it ripped out of my hands)
-when my hands are fulll with my briefcase, other bags, etc.

For all these scenarios, that remote seems useful. And you're spot on about the design (and features). At 50 bucks (at the very least), it should deliver more in terms of design. Heck, I would've bought it if it had a similar aluminum casing and rubber back. Would look nice together with the ZX300

For those who are interest in the WM port plugs, 3.5mm and 4.4mm, here are the parts code for them, although they do come with the Japanese version, the rest of the world won't get them out of the box, but if you have a sony repair centre nearby, you should be able to order them.

The same plugs work for both WM1A/Z and the ZX300/A

SE plugs 4-591-290-01
4.4mm plugs 4-591-289-01
WM Port plugs 4-574-056-01

For those who needs the ZX2 version

4-545-039-01

That remote come with a clip and 2 holder for attaching to cable, also nicely designed with compact size and long battery life. I think it worth the money.
In the other hand, accessories like these may need higher production cost as production in small scale.

Btw, go google the AK RM01 remote for AK240 and AK380, and you know Sony didn't overprice on it and glad they keep the design slim and simple

I agree, it does look expensive, but consider they only sell on small scale, the cost all goes to production and design, nice design, small, and very convenience if you have you DAP tucked away, but I do prefer a matt finish on the front as the gloss finish will scratch easily.

Try amazon japan, or some online store, you can also use a agent and purchase them from places that don't ship to your country.

Maybe a
A conflicted man is among you...

The Sony remote can be bought for as low (haha) as a little more than 50USD minus shipping.
For that price I can buy an extra Sony mp3-player to go jogging. Really.

The dilemma is thus: Would I rather be the guy who has to dig his ZX300 out of his pocket at whatever circumstance?

OR: Would I rather be the comfy fool?

Decisions, decisions, decisions
I'll probably end up buying this when I get my ZX300 for the same reasons you listed in a later post, also I listen when my hands are wet doing the dishes or housework. My only concern is after buying they release a smaller remote with display.

Has anyone spent a bit of time with their remote to comment on if there is any significant drain on the battery?

Sorting out the album art is a pain but once its done it looks beautiful on that matte screen.
