Have you much experience simply using the Z7 with the 4.4mm stock balanced cable and the ZX300? I found the Kimber really fixs some of the issues with the Z7, though have not listened to them with the ZX300.
I did see a huge improvement on the sound of the Z7 using the 4.4 balanced with Kimber cables. I have been playing the Z7 for a long time now but I was surprised the sound changed when I used the 4.4 balanced port. i do not know if it is the kimber cable or the balance port but I noticed it right away. There is sparkle now on the highs on some of the songs that I listen that I did not notice before and the texture of the bass improved.
Compared to the stock cable listening at 30 hour intervals for 30 minutes during burn-in @ 160 hours I failed to see a change in sound quality.

That’s right, as balanced you only get the double 3.5mm cable, so it was the first for you to go balanced with 4.4mm. My mistake, I forgot about that.
In my experience.........
The sparkle and bass control are also the two concepts which improved dramatically actually using the Kimber with the Z7 in contrast to going back to the included balanced 3.5mm X2 with the Sony TA amplifier. So my guess is that balanced is an improvement getting more power, but the bass control and sparkle treble improvements are a trait of the Kimber Kable itself. Also it should be noted that more power also gets the sound of better bass control as a concept; regardless of cable used.
I also feel the Kimber tends to smooth out and almost correct the midrange quality of the Z7. That said the Z7 is maybe a controversial headphone, with many not liking the quality of it’s personality and many loving it. I’ve only had the Z7 for a short while; but I’m pretty sure I’ll be in the later group?
The Sony/Kimber Kable MUC-B20SB1 is such an amazing product and has become more special the longer I use it, and test it. I spent an afternoon switching it out with the Z1R included 4.4mm balanced stock cable with the Z1R. Those same qualities of sparkle in the treble, bass definition, and overall clarity were noted as an improvement. The changes were not slight either.
If you ever simply get an improvement of clarity; it’s a pretty big deal, in my humble opinion.
Has anyone tried running Fostex T50rp MK III style headphones out of the ZX300, such as the Fostex itself or mods like the Dekoni Blue or ZMF headphones? After searching for "Fostex", "Dekoni" and "ZMF" in this thread I haven't found anything.
I ask as I'm thinking about picking up some ZMF Classics. I don't have a ZX300 at the moment, but am still considering getting one in the future and would like all my gear to be compatible if possible. I hear the T50rp headphones are quite hard to drive and wondering how they would sound out of the ZX300.

Balanced sounds awesome on my personal modded set. At like 105 volume on high gain though. Not the greatest I've heard them, but the synergy is very very good.
Got a cheap package of accessories for my ZX300.
- 1 pc silicone case (textured + dust cover for wm port)
- 2 pcs matte tempered glass
- 1 pc lanyard
- 6 pcs of dust covers (3 pcs for each output)
- 12 pcs Hi-Res stickers (4 pcs in each pack of TG + another 4 pcs)
Everything comes in a single purchase for about $12 including shipping. Better than nothing while saving for a Dignis or a Sony flip cover case.

Yes, if the cover is made of metal harder than the jack. In my case above, the covers are all soft silicone rubber so I'm not worried of the jacks getting loose.

The cover are silcone rubber, in most cases, you will choose SE or balanced, so it's plug and left alone. So no damage is done, I have them on, my ZX300, and I switch them time to time, as I use a combine of SE and balanced, even the seller gave me about 3 sets of each, including wm port for spare in case I lose them, but they fit firmly.
Those sticker are only good on the ZX2 as I have a glass screen protector that has a cut out for the sticker, as for the ZX 300, the sticker stand out too much, the ZX300 is a work of art when I comes to design, so it's best left alone, that's only my opinion, I have about 20 of them just left I the box.
