Sony NW-ZX300

Thanks Superuser1. If I did want to go with the ZX300, and keep it minimal and simple, there is not a way to connect this directly to a main system preamp unless going thru the 3.5 analog output ( which would not possible give me great audio quality)?
In that case scenario you would be double amping and that is a personal preference. I would get the zx300 if i was to use the 4.4mm balanced out. If one doesn't use it I don't see the point in getting a zx300 if you want to achieve digital out and bypass the S-Master chip.

Perfect answer. That helps me tremendously :)
for headphones, the 4.4mm balanced out would not be able to drive my HD650 (if i buy a balanced cable)? If not then I would not be using the zx300 to its full potential.

Again whether zx300 would drive the HD650 from the 4.4mm looks to be answered in the affirmative by some while some feel it doesn't drive them properly.

I have been using the HD6XX, which should be identical to the HD650 and the zx300 has no problem powering them using the balanced output on high gain. The only downside is that the battery will drain quicker than if using more efficient headphones. I use them with the volume leve between 60-80 and the Max the zx300 goes is 120!

To me the HD6xx sound great but I haven’t used them with any other amp to compare. Hope this helps!

Been offered a mint zx300 for $465 I'm guessing thats a no brainer?

Grab it like a life preserver. Be on it like white on rice! I paid 700 and it's worth every penny. That's the price of an ak70, and this is a top tier dap- especially on 4.4 balanced.

International shipping maybe a service they have recently added - compared to the cost of shipping anything form Japan a few years ago, I thought the price is reasonable - a few times the cost of shipping a cheap CD was quoted at about 3000 yen

Orkney - Have you put all the music into a folder called "Music"?

Yeo -- still no dice. I'm using SanDisk cards formatted FAT32, so have begin the tedious process of swapping the music off, reformatting as ExFAT, swapping the music back on, and trying again. May also grab a 128 or 200GB card as backup.

Really like the sound, features and UI (for the most part) coming from an X5. Not really a portable listener anymore, but finding the 300 a nice all-in-one solution for my needs. Or I hope to, once I have tunes. :L3000:
