Sony NW-ZX300

I have a a $10 adapter from ebay and it does not change the pinout array. Buyers of adapters may want to check continiuty with a digital mulitmeter to make sure everything is on order. The ground pin is unused...
You are right regarding some adapters. Some do change the array as i am given to believe. I haven't measured with a multimeter though. Ground would be unused in the 2.5mm pinout layout.
Have you checked this one out?

Nope, haven't looked into that particular adapter. I have an adapter that looks like the Penon listed earlier in this thread.

I re-terminated a stock EX1000 cable and use it balanced out of my ZX300, and yes it makes a considerable difference compared to SE with this hungry IEM.

I have sent Penon an email however I suspect you are right about the previously mentioned adapter. If you have checked with a multimeter, then we have a problem. I just hope Penon replies to the contrary regarding the ones they sell.

Yes the difference is indeed considerable!!

My adapter looks exactly like the Penon, but was not listed as such.
I have seen similar looking adapters elsewhere and it could be different manufacturers or the same one. I can only hope and guess  But i think i shall give the fidue adapter a go. However i shall first await their reply and confirm if the fidue adapter has the same issue. What i don't understand is why.

I also have two ex1000 cables reterminated and also have this for my Xelento.

Isn't the 2.5mm AK balanced cable a different pin out?

The Sony 4.4mm

With only a 4.4mm to 2.5mm adapter the Left and Right channels will be out of phase. It wouldn't be a big deal if the 4.4mm's L- and L+ changed places, then the channels would be opposite, and you could just switch the cable plug at the headphone side of things to compensate.

I love your avatar!

I got this coming in to use with the Sony

Going balanced is a must.

I’m monitoring the zx300 by Shure SE535 earphones and Tesla T1 Beyerdynamic headphones, both unbalanced.
While I am still waiting for a new balanced cable for the SE535, got, two days ago, a xlr to sony 4 mm balanced for my T1 and started working.
Cutted the original T1 cable around 35 cm from the stereo jack and soldered L+ on pin 1 L- on pin 2 R+ on pin 3 R- on pin 4 of a male xlr connector.
The T1 unbalanced (first gen) comes with separated cables for each channel. Negative is soldered with ground on the original stereo Jack but it’s not on the headphone side, so I used just the negative for the male xlr and still evaluate if have to isolate ground on the headphone side. No ground is used by the xlr to Sony 4mm adapter.

Put 4mm jack inside zx300.
Well....it was opening the heaven door.

Even with a extra low T1 impedence I’m able piloting it (hi gain on balanced activated) and I don’t think that a balanced ampli is needed.
Post my comment for the SE535 balanced when aliexpress cable will show up (dreaming on a late Santa Klaus gift —-> SE846....)

Does it play tracks of multi-disc albums in correct order? The nw-zx100 does not. It plays first track 1 of disk 1 and then track 1 of disc two.
I think it does but you have to tag them properly. Track/total Tracks and Disc/ Total Discs.
I have a few many compilations by artists and the CD 1 and CD 2 play in exact order.

I’m new to this balanced business. If I want to use my earbuds on the zx300 using the balanced option, is there an adaptor I could get or do I need to buy new earbuds?

If your earbuds are already balanced (4 wires) then you may be able to get away with re terminating them if you can do that stuff yourself otherwise it requires a new cable with the new 4.4
I am totally balanced but even I have to adjust because they are going from 2.5mm to 4.4

I just transferred 5 DSD albums while typing this post and it usually takes that long for just 1 DSD album so...that is sweet!
