The model name is indeed ZX300A. But the specifications are not out yet and the product page is currently incomplete, so who knows.

Plus, there's a microSD card slot. A 256 GB microSD isn't too hard to find and SanDisk recently launched a 400GB one.

If the cost is so much cheaper, I'd rather run the unit using a larger card, but if the price is similar to the normal version, then i'd rather spend the extra for the 64GB version.

but I think the A indicate a china version only, but initally, it's the same as the other version.

Also, it seems like I will consider this over the WM1A, what are peoples opinion on the colors, which will you choose, I have the black one in mind.

Well which is exactly as I pointed out as the OP was claiming he has insider info that the ZX300 will be replaced this time next year, but the ZX300 should be a mid/high end product which has a slower update cycle and not the A series which is the low, throw away tier of consumer products not prosumer/enthusiasts tier so the pace of refresh of A series products cannot be used to judge mid/high end products.

You did not specify just the higher end products in the post I quoted so you should be more specific.

And I thought you said no one will be interested in the 16gb one…anyway the suspected price now is 2990rmb, ~455usd.

It all depends on the retail price.

Very excited about this player. I have the 1Z but find it is too heavy for portable use. Maybe it is time to get rid of my ZX2 and buy this player. I particularly the DSD digital output on newer Sony players.

Seems the zx300 will be available on amazon 15th september for £600.00 That's a lot quicker than I expected in all honesty. Might be worth waiting to see if amp3 will get it in and if the 10 percent off will apply to it.

I think the zx300 will be their biggest seller if they priced it right. The combination of size and power on tab are nice to have. It is less of an issue now given the 400gb microSD will soon be available but why not putting a 256gb on board and increase the price by $200. More capacity is always welcomed.

That would put it squarely with WM1A pricing bracket which won't be desirable and would confuse the buyers and cannibalise their own product. If you look at their coming line up their product tiers are divided very clearly:
A40: 16G or 32G for about $300
ZX300: 64G for about $700
WM1A: 128G for about $1000
WM1Z: 256G for about $3000
