Yes, I guessed that would be the case. I can't really afford the Z7's ( Well not anytime soon ! ) Would you then need a Sony PHA-3 ? Does the Oppo PM3's have separate channels, removable cables ? ( I know the Senn HD650's do. )

I don't use pha-3 for my z7. You can try MDR 1a, it is cheaper and has TRRS jacks, but you need to buy the cables

Thanks, i'll consider that as an option. Not sure, but I think they are cheaper than my MDR-1RNC headphones ?

Doubt it. Zx2 has super capacitor and some high quality capacitors for it analog quality. Sony uses it top tech for zx2 and not just assemble one of the sabre DAC on the board like many other devices....which smartphone is going to use as well. Zx2 is unique and will still be for years to come. Is there other dap that use super capacitor ?

a person who has K3003 and ZX2 (like me) told me that he just ordered the rhapsodio solar (which apparently sounds like an improved K10, only cheaper...) with TRRS termination 

things are looking very interesting here (and my wallet is about to cry) 

 
 
btw, buying the TRRS silver dragon cable for my UM Miracles was one of the best investments i have done , imho.

Yeah, I can not stretch enough of how much improvement the TRRS out from zx2 really is....the sad thing is that more than enough people would justify the Zx2 sound without using TRRS ....which is like a handicapped zx2 lol...

Maybe not handicaped but definitely not up to what it's capable of, I guess it also depends what IEM are plugged at the other end but typically feedback of cable upgraders with the ZX2 are from people with second to top tier IEMs / headphones.

buying a 200$ cable (with TRRS) does not make sense if you have a 200$ iem

now having a 500-1000$ iem , well i would say go for it.

Oh well, if you are meant to upgrade the cables, they can be as expensive as anything else....there are cables which cost 50,000$ a pair for large speakers....so...anyways, I am trying to say TRRS will improve the sound quality. Do not bother with cables upgrade yet, unless....yeah, you have the ability to and, top tier gears, ofcourse.

The cheap way is to just replace the plug on the existing cable provided it has 4 conductors all the way and you only need to use the phones with ZX2
