The most painless way is just run a Win VM under Mac. I did play around with Linux and it works but involves a bit of headache.

I tried to compile the scsitool under Mac but without success. If someone could succeed, from there on it should be pretty straightforward.

That is why I am going to wait until I can borrow a PC from work. In any case I am not sure that me hearing and/or earphones will allow me to enjoy the sound improvements.

There's a lot of hype about the sound improvements - it's different for each individual, so YMMV. The improved/added functionalities are OTOH a fact. I'm on the DMP-A50R FE firmware, that is a major improvement in that department, though there're some trade-offs

If you use the Plus mode on the latest releases it uses 20-25% more battery. Classic modd is about the same as stock

Get the fat bear case guys. Much easier to hold and control the a55.

I've found no problem holding the A30/A50 walkmans without any case. The only addition a did were matte screen protectors, so as to avoid fingerprints all over.

I find it a bit to thin. Having a case makes it so easy to use thr touch screen

The Sony subsidiary in VIetnam ordered a leather craft shop to make a number of this. It is either sold as a local official accessory or a promotion gift (if you get lucky, I didn't ).
