Sony NW-A40 Series NW-A45/A46/A47

I suspect the firmware might work on the A35 though, but still, some modifications would have to be made in order to get it working and flashing.

You can try flashing it, of course, but the flashing process will just not start, so there's no bricking chance either by trying.
It will be nice if can make an a35 version, I'll be willing to be a guinea pig and test it on my a35

I would need to have the actual device. Recovering a Sony player from bricking is not an easy job, and lots of that can happen while testing.

If I'll ever get hold of one, maybe. For now I already bought the A45 and A55, and I didn't really need them to be honest  I'll have to see what I'll do with them.

Is it possible to flash the zx300 to a45 or a55 firmware? I want to try the functions of vpt and clear audio+
@MrWalkman

It could, but I don't actually have the ZX300 and I don't want to risk bricking anyone's device.

MrWalkman, you just made me purchase an A45 (used, like new) from amazon. Let's play with it!!.

You should definitely enjoy it :)

If I ever decide to send my WM1A for hardware modding, I could definitely live with the firmware modded A45.

Just a heads up for anyone who’s player is set to J region, when I used the model switcher it changed the language on the player to Japanese.

So I then used destination tool to change to another region so I could change language back to English. I then went back to J region and then used Reloaded+ and it’s working perfectly.

A player that costs £150 sounding this good is just incredible

It's just about the J region basically, and not necessarily about the switcher. The switcher resets the settings, so the language also gets set to Japanese, which is default for the J region. Initially I made it so it also switches the region to U, in order to prevent this thing with the language, but I thought if people changed their region to J, they should know about the Japanese language thing.

I think it sounds even better with the WM1 firmware - only if I'll be able to get the touchscreen to work :)

Is direct sound now also avaible on the nw45 after modding?

Yes, but it doesn't work for DSD files.

If you want to play DSD files you would need to disable Direct Source.

Could you hazard a guess - how good a buy is A55/45 is at $210, after all present and future mods are in and working, as compared to 1A at $1000, purely on music listening pleasure using IEMs? Also, how good ZX 507 at $800 (+ all possible mods) is compared to the high-end 1Z at $3000?

As far as I know there is no mods for a55 & zx507( unless turning off services is called a mod), so your still below a wm1a(debatable), which you can get used for less than $800...

Indeed, no mods for A55 & ZX507.

Still, I don't think you can beat the WM1A with a modded A45. However, for the A45's price range, you can get incredible audio quality.
