Sony MDR xb1000? NEw? OMG

I feared that it would have very slow deep bass focus, the more I hear about it the more I start being confident about XB500 is still the most satisfying for me. A shame as I love the way XB1000 looks like. :p

Well I guess that leaves the HFI-580? Or did you cancel that one off your list

Scytus did some extensive A/B of HFI-580 and XB500 and it seems like the deep bass would probably slightly lacking to me in HFI-580 and might not always be as warm and forward sounding like I'd prefer it to be.

I'd rather try Phiaton MS 400 because looking at FR curves alone, that shares a very similar shape of the curve to XB500 with what looks like even more forward mids to XB500 with about the same dark/smooth highs, that and possibly sometimes in the more distant future a Thunderpants modded by smeggy.

Hmm...I will have to look into the Phiaton.

hey guys how is the XB1000's soundstage for gaming?

If it's anything like the XB500 and XB700 (which I tried both for gaming), the bass is so overwhelming for games you won't be able to focus on how large the soundstage is.

If you want bassy headphones with large soundstages:

DT770 Pro 80
DT990
Denon D2000/D5000/D7000

These at least won't smother the details as much as the XB series.

I would prefer to have a HP that doesn't need amp and is within $300 USD

You don't need an amp with the Denons, just like you don't need an amp with the XBs. Both brands still benefit from amping. My D7000 sounds great unamped. I assume the same of the 2000 and 5000.

Yep, the D2Ks sound good without a amp but they turn into a whole different beast when amplified.

I'm gonna grab the XB1000's as soon as they hit the states.

That's what everyone says about all their cans. Lol. :p

I know there's a good improvement, but it doesn't NEED an amp to be enjoyed. Being easy to drive has it's benefits.

didn't care for the phiton my self, you pay for the looks and the cord felt like it would break by its own will to break.

Although I am looking for something to replace the XB500, I think I will just wait until the XB1000 hits the states and go from there
