Sony MDR xb1000? NEw? OMG

These may have potential to possibly be good "fun-gaming" sounding headphones IMO too. The even bigger airchamber between the pads and ears should do great for soundstage size and I seriously hope they keep the bassports...

That reminds me, can any1 tell if they still feature those bassports found on at least XB500/700 behind the headband? Without these it won't provide the same bass quantity but I also think it does great for soundstage in mind. Covering the holes on XB500/700 makes them sound much less airy in comparision.

aznsniper911: any headphone portable headphone amp with bass boost will help, plus EQ from iphone too. but in reality only a good powerful home amp is best. Low frequencies require that much energy too really come out good, and 9v or 4AAA batteries is not the best power source. If you try the xb700 with a warm receiver like a Marantz, you will see how they shine. The xb1000 will probably be the same.

Is there even an ETA for the USA? As each day passes, the inner urge to buy the Sony MDR-XB1000 increases. I hear these voices at night that say buy me buy me and in my dreams I hear these headphones laughing at me!

The 700s need a good high current amp, so I'd assume the 1000s will need one too but it seems to early to say for sure yet.

just got back to the states today. Plugged the 1000's into my 840a amp and wow, what a difference. Yes these phones need an amp imo. even then I find the mids and highs to be slightly recessed but it feels much more balanced than the 700s to my ear. The bass, unsurprisingly, makes them tiring to listen to but the cans are very comfortable except for how warm they are (they are ear muffs, afterall). I can't get over how comically large they are and it would be hard to wear these out with a straight face but who the hell cares. They are a fun pair but I do think they are a bit over-priced.

So how exactly do you compare mids and highs compared to XB700, are the mids less recessed? Are highs brighter or darker/smoother? Is it more warm/forward or laid-back sounding compared to XB700 and what about bass quantity?

And please answer if they still kept the bassports at the back of the cups beneath the headband. :p

It probably will drop to that price range rather quick is my guess too but at launch in US and europe I expect it to be north of $200 at least, maybe closer to $250 even but the other XBs dropped a lot in price from launch from like $130 to $80 for XB700 and even more over here in europe, in Finland it used to be like 120 ~ 125 EUR at launch and now they can be had for as low as 65~70 EUR and XB500 I think from around 80~85 EUR to 38 ~ 48 EUR now.

In Hong Kong Sony headphones always seem to be 100-200 dollars cheaper :p

Yes, at least it says so. Maybe time to start looking around for forum reviews from japanese? :p Ofc I don't read japanese but google translates to broken english at least. ^^ Then how broken english together with headphone geek speak sounds like is probably an experience on its own...

P90NINJA> Any chance for a review by you?
