Sony MDR-EX600: Impressions Thread

to my ears, the ex600 is a balanced and yet very dynamic iem, its on the warm side. As mod, you can remove the little dust filter and replace with a softer less dense one to give the treble a little boost.
Due its small isolation, also i use them on home when im in my room (where is not the stereo equipment) and is powered via a dx50+e12 to give them the power they deserve

Ok so I got the xb90 and they are great, almost as clear as my xba30 but the bass blows it away, the soundstage is better as well, I am liking the dynamic sound, I am wondering if I should still get the ex600.

Screw it I think im gonna bite the bullet and get them, I will deal with the fit and isolation, I might just sell the 30 and 90 to get them and maybe get a cheaper model for street use.

These really are beauties....

Yep, grab them while Sony still produce them. They are my favorites between my se535 and se425
Price wise, they are and have incredible value.
Don't forget to burn them like 10-100hrs to make them shine

I see that the shure 535 is $400+ are the 600's comparable considering the price? I have learned to not look at price as the main factor though. Case in point the re400 vs re600.

Yep, the se535 are expensive and very good but i apreciate more the dinámics and deep bass from the ex600.
the shures are better on the treble and upper clarity and lacks of the seameless audio from a single driver.
both are Great earphones, the shure for Just monitoring and podcast on the go, and the sonys for enjoying.
also the sonys are detalles too

Anybody know if anybody tried EX-1000 cable with the Ex-600?  There is only about 3ohm difference between the two, and the EX-1000 has more treble lift, and I'm curious if it's because the EX-1000 cable has much lower impedance than the EX-600.

somewhere I saw that the real change between this cables is a little boost on volume

That is awesome, I was looking at the shures but that is way too much money for me, selling my iems to get the ex600, hopefully fit and size arent issues and I really like the sound, thankfully it seems to fit what I want, balanced with a big soundstage.

Also can anyone explain the "open and airy" soundstage that many say about these? What does that mean?

It means a sense of air around the stage (inside your head) the opposite of a compressed or closed in presentation, you kind of feel it. Wide soundstage (left/right) giving the impression of samples imaging (hearing them) around the outside of your ears.

At least to my ears, i just need to boost the EQ on my dx50 on the 16khz like 4dB up to match the se535, even the clarity and almost the micro details. but with the body weight of the mids and bass of the ex600.
Wonder how much the diference would be between the ex600 and the ex1000

Based on my observations of peoples listening it seems that the ex600, 7550 and 1000 all sound very similar, there are subtle differences in treble if I recall, most seem to say that the 7550 might be the best of the lot while others say the 1000.

It seems that the 1000 suffers from 2 things though, 1. Price/value, most would say that the 1000 is better but its not that much compared to the MUCH cheaper ex600, also 2. It seems that it has gained a sort of legendary name because of the great sound and premium materials used causing the price to skyrocket (perhaps more than its worth?).

If I can find one cheap I'll buy in a heartbeat but at the nearly $500 price tag? Nah, I'll go with the ex600.

Side not: listening to the xb90 now, man listening to dynamics more and more I like it maybe better than BA, just has a more natural sound if that makes sense, Im picturing these with better clarity and lesser but clear bass and a wide soundstage will be the 600, gotta get those soon!
